I don't have to worry about getting the pictures taken or the police
style pat downs. I understand the need for security and all but it's
gotten to the point where the pat downs are border line illegal..
unconstitutional even. The 4th ammendment protects us from the
following:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures

Having ones private areas touched by persons who are not even officers of the
law would seem to me to be an unreasonable search.

To anyone that fly's often, my sympathies.

I guess my largest problem with the enhanced searches at airports right now isn't even that the government is doing it without "probable cause". It is that by the head of the TSA own admission of the fact or lack of answering a simply question " would the new equipment or groping have caught the 2 sugar packet style explosive of the "panty bomber" been detected to begin with? The answer which was hard to pry out of him was, "we may never know". Hardly a resounding yes vote there. We are back to two kids squabbling with each other about prove it.. or prove it wouldn't.
I defer to the Air Israel proven effectiveness of no high jacking or bombings in 30 years. Do they profile? Sure they do. Is it by race color or creed? Only in so much as the higher percentage of offenders do happen to be in or outbound from certain areas with certain easy to forge credentials. A few simple questions like asking for a traveler to recite a few simple items like their own phone number or address screens out people traveling under forged credentials as they typically can not answer these questions without raising flags.
At the point they can not answer these simple questions, then you remove the criteria of unreasonable search or seizure would you not?
I submit the reasons we wouldn't do anything so simple and effective is the intent is not to actually catch any of these folks but to keep track of our own population. Anyone who follows the money trail in America can probably see where I am going with this.

And I agree with max about the liberty for safety thing-except on airoplanes-those things are some scary terrifying mutha's!

Why do you find this werd?

I would submit our original constitution worked so well for as long as it did, was because those who wrote it saw a problem with letting the government control too much in a persons life. Both the left and right hand progressives see it as their "duty" to redistribute what you and I make. This is an enormous problem.

I feel the tea party will become less of a force if they do as they are talking about ,and make social issues a part of their platform they will lose support.

Back to flying however. I do not consider flying or driving ( or being driven) a right in our country. Do we have the right to let an agency determine whether an individual has the abilities to fly us around? Sure as your right to do what you want ends at my safety or pocket book. You right to be flown however is guarantied not by specific constitutional law but established case law from years ago.

"In U.S. v Guest, 383 U.S. 745 (1966), the Court noted, "It is a right that has been firmly established and repeatedly recognized." In fact, in Shapiro v Thompson, 394 U.S. 618 (1969), Justice Stewart noted in a concurring opinion that "it is a right broadly assertable against private interference as well as governmental action. Like the right of association, ... it is a virtually unconditional personal right, guaranteed by the Constitution to us all." It is interesting to note that the Articles of Confederation had an explicit right to travel; it is now thought that the right is so fundamental that the Framers may have thought it unnecessary to include it in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights."

My issues with many of the things that some presume the Government can control better than a private industry could. This is where I get upset with Lobbyist from either side of an issue.

Rather than lobbying the government to get involved in corporate affairs let a corporation step up to the plate and form an entity to fix it for them. The result would be a far better run solution with a far more streamlined set of goals for a far better choice. If the public likes the result then you can ask through referendum for the project like oh say.. the E l Al Airlines Screening methods inc. I for one ..would gladly vote in money to let that agency secure my planes.
I didn't read your whole post! just the "why do you find this "werd"".............LOLOLOL it means "WORD" like I agree, Slang spelling. like=l1k3 or LEET=1337(= 'elite' a slang phrase from back when the web was new, the hackors(=h4x045) and message boarders had a private lingo.

Sorry Lando...

I get a little punchy sometimes about me posts up here .. And lately maybe too much so. I guess I was tinking werd as in weird.. but I take you at face I had it wrong. Just goes to show I cant even keep my urban slang straight these days.. lolol
RJE, I think your previous case by case post makes the most sense to me, as it should to the rest, if, you really believe in our rights as Americans. If you believe what the government wants you to gulp up, hook, line, and fly, (sorry, I don't use sinkers), then you enable that which is upon us and happening all too often, loss of liberty. As far as my music favs., no not Steely Dan, which is quite 70's, I did go to the Farwell concert in 2007, featured alot of the older bands, and alot of newer ones too. My diversity for the love of music extends from being a past musician, played the keyboards, drums, sang, and some woodwinds. I don't like the Opera nor Rap music, other than that, I am pretty much a music lover at large. Btw, my prediction has already come true, now that the airlines have the pat downs, the bus, trains, and boats will too. Like I said, give an inch, they will take a mile before it's over.
NEW RELEASE 12/3/10: The FDA will be institutionalizing more regulations, per the recent lame duck passage of a bill, that will scrutinize the childrens lunch programs much further now. No more cupcakes, special low fat meals and deserts only, dry dull tasting to most, but much better for your kids, right? Oh, and those bake sales and pizza sales for charity and raising money for band uniforms and such, all will be closely and carefully monitored by our Uncle Sammy, to make sure it's not devil's food in disguise. Other game type concessions will also be monitored for good nutition, forget carmel apples and carmelcorn anymore, and no ice cream either, unless it's low fat, and just once every so often, not all the time. Look out citizens, your Uncle Sammy has new plans for you and your kids included, and you and I can't argue with this kind of sound and liberal thinking, or can we?
The biggest issue with Obama care besides the cost is that the Gov. will involve themselves in every aspect of our lives becuase they will be claiming that they are paying our medical bills so they have the right to tell us how to live. This current legislation is only the beginning to extremely intrusive Government policies. We are in big trouble if Obama care is allowed to exist in any form. I heard on the radio that the Republicans have already backed off trying to repeal that piece of sh-t legislation.
