Michigan State Police trooper from Mason County shot during traffic stop

What a horrible thing to happen here in our area. What kind of people do something like this? What could be so bad that they had to shoot the guy? Times like this that I wish Michigan had the death penalty... people like this don't deserve to live if their value on human life is so little. We can only hope that whatever punishment they receive is severe and very long term. The following is an update released by the MSP a little while ago regarding the officer that died:

Michigan State Police have confirmed that Trooper Paul Butterfield has died. “Tonight we lost a hero,” stated Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP. “The entire MSP family, as well as our greater law enforcement family, mourns alongside the Butterfields. Trooper Butterfield’s sacrifice will never be forgotten; may he rest in peace.”

Michigan State Police Lt. Chris McIntire, commander of the state's Rockford Post, confirmed one person was shot in connection to the shooting of a state trooper out of Mason County. At least one suspect is in police custody, McIntire said.

The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. during a traffic stop in Mason County's Sherman Township, McIntire confirmed.

The suspect, who was shot following the incident, was believed to be alive as of 10 p.m. tonight, Sept. 9, McIntire said. McIntire declined to say whether it was a Michigan State Police official who shot the suspect.

The trooper is reportedly in critical condition.

The trooper's name is not being released by McIntire at this time. He said he anticipates new information will be released to the media early Tuesday morning, Sept. 10.

McIntire said investigators are €œpiecing together information from €œtwo different crime scenes in two different districts.

The shooting occurred in one location in Mason County's rural township of Custer, but the suspect in custody was located at the Dublin Store in northern Mason County, just south of Manistee, McIntire said.

Investigators received information that the suspect was in that area.

We got information where he might be and that's where we found him, McIntire said.

It wasn't clear if there was an additional individual in custody as of late Monday night.

New information will be available Tuesday and will be posted here on MLive/Muskegon Chronicle.

What does this bathroom post have to do with this thread?  Now I am really wondering about EMurphs mindset.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone in trying to figure out what E Murph is getting at-- he's not only dissociated with topics of threads, he seems to be dissociated with any sort of common sense.  I really think I need a translator for almost all of his threads.

Maybe E. Murph is a tad obsessed with cameras on well you know...Seems that way with his/her posts read in every thread.  I'm thinking...oh never mind we all know some trolls who come here.

Actually Tom, you brought up the Cameras first on September 15, 2013 at 9:13am.  I was replying to you post, so I guess who should be trying to figure out what Tommy was getting at with his thread about Cameras when we should be talking about the Trooper and thanking him for his service.

In a thread, the original topic can sometimes be walked away from into periphery topics.  I did make the original comment about the cameras, but it was because you were making some sort of blanket statement about the media in your prior post and I offered a rebuttal argument.

You then poured accelerant on that topic by saying words to the effect that you don't mind being recorded when you're sitting on the toilet, and don't mind recording others on the toilet covertly or overtly.  Many people found those statements very troubling about your character, E Murph.

If you do that with your kids or other's kids, that's a serious act of perversion on your part, a serious crime, and you might get to shake hands with our area's LEOs, and tell them how good of a job they're doing, before they lock you up.

When did i say anything about doing that with my kids or others?? Don't you ever accuse me of saying sh*t i didn't say Tommy...

If you'd actually read other's posts and review your own, you would understand that in your prior post you were okay with people watching you sit on a toilet (public exhibitionism) and didn't care if someone in the city was watching you and recording you while you're doing your business.

One would have to extend that line of reasoning to be in the belief that you were OK with kids being seen and recorded while doing their business.  If their naughty parts are visible, the City has just created what the federal government would call Child Pornography.  A serious  crime, and one that our tax dollars are paying for.

This isn't some middle-aged man leaving his IPhone on the sink in the bathroom while his cousin takes a shower; no, this is much worse.  That man is in jail for a half year, nabbed by the LPD, while the City has been mum with what they do with these tapes, beyond saying the incredulous statement that the waterfront tapes had never been reviewed in a dozen years.
