No Assurance of Any Local Blow Jobs During or After Erection of Massive Structures

"It creates opportunities, but we cannot guarantee any jobs," said Havgul Clean Energy's Chief Grifter Harald Dirdal in a moment of frankness as reported in the 6-2-10 edition of the LDN.  Both he and Scandia Wind CEO Steve Warner are likely to recommend Muskegon as a place for local manufacturing of turbines (if they are to be made locally at all), and definitely not Mason County.

If you haven't yet figured it out, anybody looking at improving the local job situation (such as certain county commisioners) through the offshore turbine farm proposals is just peeing into the wind.  After we provide food and lodging for the construction workers imported in to ruin our lakescape, don't be expecting cheaper energy prices or crews of local wind-workers enriching our long-term economy.

Just an impression I get, but the more I look into what's developed over the months with this company, the more I think it should be renamed Scam'd-Ya Wind.  The company that puts the 'wind' in 'swindle'.  The problem is, if they are successful they just move on, a bit richer, and then the real exploitation of our area "hits the fan".

As an assumption without doing any research......Muskegon county will plunge in deep, head first. They won't even let there fingers do the walking so to speak to see if it's any good.

As they are likely poor enough to pimp there shoreline out like a getty street hooker to scamdia for whatever profits they can get before she's used up and abandoned.

So the question is ...Do we hit it first, and get the fresh payout, or take the sloppy seconds, which could mean getting none at all?

had to stick with edie's theme ya'll.
Kinda racey language for you two gals, isn't it? But it's cute anyhow.

Hmm, snow jobs, but no blow jobs.

Edie and Sheila, you're about as crude as a Louisiana Beach, but that's why we like you.
Today the local WKLA noon news announced the MCBC will meet tonite at the Courthouse, 7:30pm, to yes or no vote on the wind farm project in front of the Ludington Harbor, a 100 mile grid, containing 350' high wind turbines, to be an eyesore on our Lk. Michigan horizon for the next 100 years or so. This seems to be the final vote on this importannt critical issue before us for many years to come. I do hope there is some ground swell in attendance to see to it this isn't put into law and place here now, if it isn't too late already to speak out. A majority no vote imho will chase these foreighners out of here to go elsewhere with this flawed project. A yes vote will be an enormous mistake, one to live with for genereations to come.
Here's the LDN article on that topic:
County board wind vote Tuesday

Offshore wind developers may have their answer Tuesday night.
Mason County Board of Commissioners Chairman Mike Schneider plans to call for a vote when the board meets at 7:30 p.m. at the county courthouse.

Plans for an offshore wind farm are being developed by Scandia Wind and Havgul Clean Energy. The latest plans call for construction of 50 to 100 wind turbines between Pentwater and the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant

Developers from Scandia and Havgul asked commissioners for a board decision by September, stating it will not go ahead with the project if the Mason and Oceana county boards won’t support it.

The state requires a number of studies as part of the permitting process, and Scandia wanted support before moving on to that costly stage.

The Mason County Board of Commissioners voted in May to leave it up to Schneider to decide which committee would take up discussion on a proposed wind farm in Lake Michigan, but Schneider decided not to send it to committee.

Commissioners voted 8-1 last month, with Schneider — District 2 commissioner — absent, to allow him to decide which committee would discuss the wind turbine proposal or create a special committee.

Have to love the MCBC 's way of thinking: "Schneider missed the meeting, let him decide this thorny issue." LOL

It will be an interesting vote, and interesting to see what the commissioners-- particularly the lakeshore ones-- are thinking.
Through the years of attending some CC and MCBC meetings of importance, I've witnessed that many times the agenda and outcome of voting has been decided sometime beforehand, just to make sure something of a public attendance nature doesn't upset their applecart. I'll just bet that's the case here too tonite. In any event, if I can get away and remember to go over there, I'm going to see for myself what this mob is up to now. I encourage anyone else with the time to also attend for this critical vote tonite.
There does seem to be a 'mob mentality' in the Ludington City Council, and it doesn't seem to be much different among the MCBC Commissioners. If you (or anyone else) go there, give us all a lowdown ASAP.
I phoned Mary Nichols this afternoon to converse on this important matter. The Board Chairman, Mike Schneider, was supposed to appoint a special committee some time ago to discuss all the issues with Scandia and more importantly, the public at large. That was never done yet. The last meeting MS was absent due to illness too. The deadline for Scandia is this coming September, so why the rush to decide now. As Mary saw it, there is a somewhat split on the board as to yes or no, leaning towards no. But, that could change tonite when the chips are down. I'm going down there in a few minutes, and going to see exactly what they do. I suggested to Mary they NO vote it down, cause 95% of the people I've talked to are not for it. She also said there should be alot of mixed discussions both pro and con from the board and public alike. I suggested that if it looks like a yes is going to happen, to make a motion to table the matter for further discussion and investigations. Hopefully, I can report later tonight on the success to either table or NO vote this important matter. Thanks.
I am happy to report tonites outcome on the Scandia project proposal to our MCBC. A resounding 9-1 NO VOTE came in against it. HOORAY for Mason County!!!!!!!!!! In what was a rainy cold dreary nite, about 75 local angels of mercy and sanity decided to put the MCBC on the hot seat for a change. The PEOPLES VOICES were heard, and finally listened to. Of course there just had to be one in denial, throwing up his arms in anguish and disgust as he voted Yes, you guessed it, Bobby Genson, 9th District Commishy. Maybe it's time the 9th District had some new blood? The crowded circuit courtroom was filled to capacity with people standing, I managed to stand outside in the hall with about 35 other people locked out from the overcrowding. But it was truly worth the price of admission. About 12 steadfast locals poured their hearts and souls out for rejection of the proposal, while one loner, a lobbyist for Scandia, bought and paid for in full, decided tactics about education, green, state subsidies, and other false tactics fell on deaf ears with the rest of the audience. Many made our case intact and sound with the facts of no jobs, no manufacturing, no tourists, no local advantages at all. The loner by the way is from down-state, where he can stay, and lick his wounds for a while. I truly hope and sounded like this issue will NOT come back to our doorsteps at any time near in the future. Thanks Mason County folks whom participated and acted to save our beautiful scenery and majestic Lk. Michigan from any such insane ideas, now and into the far reaching future.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am really surprised by this vote, I figured they would pass it. I hope they made this vote because of their convictions and/or the almost unanimous voice of the people. Figured they would pass the responsibility over to Oceana County-- who I think will vote against this also.

Scandia Pres. Warner stressed that more education about the project is what's needed to get it through. Unless the education is some seriously greased (with money) county commissioner hands, they should move on, because I agree with Edie, it looks like a racket. Thanks for the on-scene reportage, Aq.
