The Daily paper had a article "Open meeting act explained to planning commission" I found to be very interesting about the level of conversation that would be in violation. Saw at Scottville City Hall a commissioner and the mayor carry a bag of stuff into the office I would assume it was not cookies. So according to the article this is a violation of the open meeting act law. Commish Hahn brought up the fact that when Kreiger was appointed no discussion just a nomination and a vote very apparent things where decided before the meeting. Any comments on article and are these private conversations dealing with city business without being open to public and what to do about it.

I just got back from a mini-vacation yesterday from out of state, and read that in the newspaper.  Ludington City Attorney Richard Wilson giving instruction on how not to violate the Open Meetings Act seems rather ironic, since I've personally taken the city council to court for two violations of that act, and could have easily done so in three other instances (and may yet still).

It's kind of like having Hilary Clinton telling you about E-mail retention, Donald Trump giving you lessons on humility, or President Obama versing you on Constitutional law.

Commissioners/councilors should not be 'conferencing' before or after a meeting.  I saw four or five members of our county board hanging around after a meeting and talking for a good fifteen minutes last year out in the courthouse parking lot.  Votes like those that happened in Scottville for the first open position do seem to point at deliberations taking place outside of open meetings, but it's often difficult to prove without admissions of guilt.

And we all already know how eager and honest any political people around Mason County are to ADMIT any GUILT OR MISTAKES.

I am very curious to know why Wilson gave those instructions and why it was made so public and also why he did so at this time instead of 5 years ago?
