On May 18, Michigan's Governor Whitmer announced that the Upper Peninsula and the northern Lower Peninsula had advanced to Phase 4 in reopening, this included Manistee County but not neighboring Mason County.  This allowed Manistee County the ability to immediately open any or all public buildings.

Manistee City Hall remained closed to the public for the remaining two weeks of May.

On June 1st, Whitmer moved all of Michigan into Phase 4.  The announcement was immediately acted upon by the City of Ludington the next day in a notice:

So within a week of moving to Phase 4, Ludington City Hall was back to normal in-person business (with safety precautions).

On June 5th, Whitmer moved Manistee and other northern Michigan counties in regions 6 & 8 to phase 5 of reopening effective June 10th, which allowed salons, movie theaters, and gyms, to open subject to safety protocols and procedures designed to minimize the spread of COVID-19.  Under Phase 5, indoor social gatherings and organized events of up to 50 people are permissible.  After three weeks of Ludington's city hall, in a region one phase behind, being open for over three weeks...

Manistee City Hall would remain closed to the public for the remaining four weeks of June.

Yesterday, June 29th, Manistee City Mangler Thad Taylor announced that the people's city hall building would finally open up to the people-- on July 7th.  It was noted that this would be the first time the public was able to enter the building since March 17, a period of 112 days, roughly a third of a year.

Taylor announced they would be limiting the number of people from the public attending the meeting that night to 14 or 15.  Simple math indicates that leaves up to 35 or 36 spots available for public officials.  Council members (7), a city attorney, Taylor, the police chief and the city clerk are the only regulars needed to be there, which leaves room for 24 to 25 more people to attend this supposedly open meeting.

Thad Taylor's arbitrary setting of capacity for the meeting is definitely worrisome, but what is more worrisome is that he has blocked the public from coming into city hall over seven weeks past when the governor permitted him to reopen that public building.  It took Ludington less than seven days to open after they were given the opportunity.  Taylor has already shown that he will not be open with the public with public records, he is now showing he will not be open with the public with public facilities.

According to Health Dept. district 10, as of 6-30-20, there has been a total of 16 confirmed cases of Covid and 0 deaths in Manistee county. Anyone see anything puzzling with this picture? What in God’s name is wrong with people. What would all of these foolish people do if there were a true emergency. Chicken Little is alive and is as stupid as ever.

State records show that there were 10 cases of Covid-19 in Manistee County on April 3, six more cases (none fatal, none reportedly requiring hospitalization) in the 88 days since amounts to almost one case every two weeks.  Governor and her useful masked idiots are concerned about spiking numbers...
