Put Me in Charge

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese, and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza ..... get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings .... get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home will be subject to inspections anytime, and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360 .... get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a government job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good.

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say this would be demeaning and ruin their self esteem, consider that it wasn't that long ago when taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

Now that is how I think. Sure it sounds mean and the ACLU would have a great time with that one....BUT...nobody is being forced to comply, I mean you don't have to sign up, people CHOOSE whether or not to sign up. LOVE IT!!!

I completely agree with Alfred unless the person is physically handicapped and unable to hold a job. Also, Alfred forgot to mention a time limit for being provided tax payers dollars.

No, I don't necessarily disagree with Alfred, at least on some of his points.  I just have experience with "Wacko" Texas, and question the sanity of most of those there.

I took it as issues with the place also RJ as being against the general premise there would be out of character for max. This being said I think the heavy handed regulations by the government whether they serve to make workers out of the non working may in fact be just as detrimental to a government that does less as the opposite extreem of the nanny state government we are leaning toward now. I wouldn't like either extreme i dont think.

Good find Edie, wish we could put Alfred's in charge in every State. Nanny states already exist now all over, whacko Wacoans exist in every town/state already, time limits need to be initiated too, the only exceptions is what RJE gives, the one's whom truly cannot work anymore, elderly, sick, handicapped, mentally ill. When you join the service or some other orgs. in the gov. you automatically give up your civil rights, why should these programs be any different? If this were to come about, you'd see a lot of people getting off their lazy worthless behinds and coming to grips with reality and responsibility. Too bad it's just a dream, the Lawyers in this country will never let it come to this, and have actually conspired to make today's reality what is has become. Why.................big bucks as per the usual, and publicity. Just think of the savings of personnel in the public sector, not to mention the feeling of accomplishment and self-worth too many don't have nowadays anymore, that in itself is worth the experiment and future achievements many would have down the line.

Here are the things that I take issue with:

I would not want to give government bureaucrats this power.  If they can to this to medicaid recipients, then who is next?  Will the government decide there are too many people, so they will have to regulate our natural right to have a family?

That sounds like a gross violation of the Fourth Amendment.  Here again, who is next?

Very good points Max, some liberties should NOT be tampered with, if they directly conflict with out-of-bounds decency, but the overall scheme otherwise, has sound ground for me. But, it's a dream of overcoming a Legal System that has gone over the top long ago, imho. That's the cancer that needs to be vanquished first, so the patient can recover to normalcy and be productive again.

I don't want the Gov. involved in people's private lives but when folks decide to take my tax dollars to support their undisciplined life styles then I would like a say in where the money goes and how it is spent. I know many unmarried women who have multiple children by multiple men. One woman has triplets and  each child has a different father. Figure that one out. Another woman I know is presently in the hospital after delivering her fourth child. Her four children have 3 different fathers and she is only 28 years old.  All of these women are unmarried and on welfare and the fathers are nowhere to be found. How much do you think this is costing the taxpayers. Why should I and my fellow taxpayers have to pay for these womens decisions to become baby mills.  If your willing to shoulder my share of the "bill" for these women and dead beat fathers then I will gladly hold my tongue about this situation.

I think we have all known people like that.  Unfortunately, there have always been stupid, irresponsible people and there always will be.  Rather than proposing taking rights away, maybe we should question the wisdom of "social safety nets".

 

Government-forced "charity" is not charity at all.  It is theft.

I totally agree! I do respect Max's concerns, but there has to be some way to stop intentional illegitimate births. Those children for the most part are destined for a pathetic life or, dare I say, a life of crime. I'm quite sick and tired of rewarding bad behavior all around. We are in a vicious cycle and need leaders who will stand up to the ACLU and others who get in the way of change.

FORGET the ethical debate, it could go on forever and turn into a pissing match! Pretend it does not exist. How about we stop ALL welfare period. For the next few months we cut all benefits by 10% per month, everything, section 8 housing, food cards, medical etc....then we put people in 'barracks' like the man suggests.

 

In THEORY it is a great idea. Problem is, that we already have that. it's called the 'projects', muskegon Heights, Cabrini Green, OR it be like the CIA prison camps.
