We know you're tired of 30 months of COVID-related information, but simply put, a recently released US-based study has shown that a simple nasal wash with a saline solution performed within 24 hours of COVID symptoms can reduce the risk of being hospitalized for COVID (SARS-CoV-2) by eight times when done twice daily for 14 days.

Reducing the amount of virus entering the body cuts the severity of the disease, says the study published September in the Ear, Nose & Throat Journal. It found that nasal washes conducted within 24 hours of diagnosis can prevent the virus from entering the lungs and possibly causing permanent or fatal damage to patients.  ACE2 receptors in cells — which bind to the spike protein of the virus resulting in COVID-19 infection — are plentiful in the nasal cavity, lungs and mouth and a nasal saline wash can help prevent the virus from attaching to receptors.

The researchers found that only 1.3 per cent of high risk COVID-19 patients who underwent nasal wash required hospitalization, suggesting that they were more than eight times less likely to be hospitalized compared with the 11 per cent in a CDC dataset of 3 million high risk patients.  Researchers noted that nasal-rinsing (jala-neti) is a widespread practice in the southeast Asian countries of Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, where case fatality was much less than that of the US.

Nasal washes are inexpensive and safe and can be administered at home using half a teaspoon each of salt and baking soda in a cup of boiled or distilled water.  The current Pfizer drug (Paxlovid) being prescribed for treating COVID in its early stages is much less successful, even if you believe their latest clinical data showing about a threefold decrease of hospitalizations.  The US government spent $530 per treatment course for Paxlovid.

Nasal rinses have been used to treat similar upper respiratory infections, like COVID is, in the US long before COVID hit our shores.  This May-June 2020 review of prior studies in this field was published at a time when it could have influenced national COVID policy, or catalyzed research into how a regimen of nasal rinses could have reduced severity.  To date, you have not heard the CDC, the NIH, Dr. Fauci or Dr. Birx consider this treatment, even with all of the studies showing promise and when this overview concluded:

"Since (a nasal rinse regimen) has been shown to work for a multitude of common viruses, logically, it should work for SARS-CoV-2 as well. The therapy could be studied as an easily available, and affordable add on modality to curb the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2. As we await definitive therapy to fight the pandemic this relative safe technique may give a ray of hope especially in prevention."

Yet the silence continues even after a new and credible study comes out showing nasal rinsing is more effective than an expensive CDC-approved therapy that has a wide range of side effects.

All the pandemic mitigations were unnecessary.  Simply telling newly infected people to rinse their nose with a saline solution if they got sick would have reduced the hospitalization rates to levels comparable to the flu.  The CDC was never-- and is still not-- interested in effective COVID treatments like nasal rinses and Ivermectin, since they seem to only want to peddle costly, ineffective, and dangerous pharmaceuticals to exacerbate the public's overall health.

First heard of this 2 years ago from a clinical study by the University of Edinburgh.

The researchers at the University of Edinburgh also recommended that you add a drop of baby wash to the solution to help break the surface tension.

They claimed it is more effective than being vaccinated for Covid.

I remain unvaxed and Covid free even though I am old, fat and have lung issues.

Congratulations for spotting ELVIS early on, the Edinburgh study published in June 2020 came out at about the same time the study I shared came out and was a small control study showing that nasal rinses helped quite a bit, as seen in the link, with every symptom lessened in severity and duration.

I've yet to run into anybody who are regretful that they never got the vaccine.  I have run into people that got the jab and died within a week and ones that claim they haven't been the same since getting it.  By the time the vaccines came out in late 2020, I had already gotten COVID and survived.  It was a no-brainer that my natural immunity was going to be better than some rushed-to-market vaccine using everyone as test subjects.
