I did a little investigation and discovered that the promise of the"jobs, jobs, jobs"  if the wind turbines were approved to be installed was just so much smoke in the wind. Almost all of the material, equipment,  labor and management for the project does not come from the Ludington area or Michigan. The White company who is constructing the towers is based in Ontario Canada and Indiana, USA. The workers are skilled in this type of construction and do not originate from Ludington. Steel construction is being done by a contractor from Phoenix. The towers are built in Denver and Oregon, the cradles to hold the sections are from Viet Nam and Denmark, the trucks are from Oklahoma, the transport trailers are form Maine,  All of the equipment is built out of the State but some of it may have been rented from companies in Michigan. The concrete of course must be local to speed up operation. And to top it off the electricity produced will be sent southeast and southwest to run blenders and microwaves in Detroit and Chicago. Wait until electric rates go up to pay for the down time when the wind isn't blowing. This is what 80+ million dollars of your tax money has bought and which will forever change the landscape of the beautiful hills of Mason County. More photos https://ludingtoncitizen.ning.com/photo

While riding my bicycle up south Stiles Road earlier today, I saw these two towers effectively sticking up like middle fingers extended to the local folks.  Great job in researching where the stuff is coming from, where the jobs are going to, where the power and money is going.  It's not Mason County.

I drove to the staging area where the tower parts are being stored and are made ready to transport and I noticed the escort vehicles [cars that follow the over sized loads with flashing lights] and even those are out of state contractors. I saw escort vehicles from Tenn. Texas and Wisconsin but no Michigan plates. Even tho there are an abundant number of escorts for hire here in Michigan. Another slap in the face for our local and state workers.

In my frequent bicycle forays into southern Mason County, I saw some local plates escorting turbine parts across the County.  Mason County Sheriff's Office plates.  I've witnessed MCSO at the front and back of these convoys, so they do put locals to work, locals with duties to be doing other things besides helping a private company figure out how to maneuver these parts through the County.  Is there a quid pro quo for the County for tying up these officers when crime is running rampant in our County?  Does anyone working at the County really care anymore?
