Last year, I paid more taxes than multi-billion dollar conglomerate General Electric.

Last year I paid a few thousand dollars in taxes; General Electric-- which earned $14 billion last year-- paid nothing. It even got money from Washington (i.e. from you), all credits and subsidies considered.

Am I the only one who is concerned that one of the biggest drains on our national treasury is corporate welfare and giant multi-billion dollar handouts to the finance industry and other powerful lobbies with friends in Washington?   Can we agree that the unearned transfer of wealth from hard-working middle class and poor Americans to wealthy companies is a great injustice and a threat to our fiscal solvency?

General Electric is the queen of corporate welfare.  Do you break your back picking asparagus?  Do you wait tables hoping for a good tip?  Do you work a bunch of part-time jobs just to keep the rent paid?  Well, the government took some of that hard-earned money of yours, and decided to give that money to General Electric --which didn't need it and didn't earn it.

And then General Electric is going to take the money they had the thugs in Washington and Lansing steal from me and you and then give it to Obama's campaign for his reelection bid in 2012 to perpetuate the travesty. They'll also plow it into operating costs for MSNBC, which will slander my values, my culture, and my principles, and try to convince me to continue the madness.

Where is the justice in all of this? How is this really happening?  I could be using the few thousand dollars I lost last year to build this website into an alternative media empire that employs hundreds and wipes out corrupt practices in government... but multi-billion dollar corporations, some too big to fail, needed that money of mine.

Lastly, lets not lose sight of the City Hall of Ludington, who issues tax abatements to any local company that asks for it (if they promise they'll create jobs, LOL), while at the same time they continue to raise millage rates, taxes and fees for the rest of us.  If these guys believe tax abatements create jobs for one company, then wouldn't tax relief, spread fairly, create jobs for all companies, and encourage entrepreneurship for all individuals?  I just don't get it.

What's new? Your comments could have been dated May 10, 1971 because nothing has changed. What's the difference between corporate welfare and other kinds of welfare? It's just as maddening to see illegals taking American jobs and receiving free medical care, food stamps, free education and other tax draining benefits which is being promoted by our own government and with the  compliments of American tax payers. How about all the billions in education grants being handed out. Who's paying for that? Billions upon billions of dollars are being sucked into the bottomless pit called "Dept. of Defense" and the "Dept. of Energy". There is so much waste and mismanagement. I heard that now 51% of American households do not pay any taxes and many of those receive the "earned income credit" refund for not paying any taxes. It's a mess and we soon will be paying the piper because there is noone in Congress who has the gonads to try and stop it. Republicans and Democrats have brought us to the edge of ruin. We haven't heard a peep out of the new Republicans that were recently given the opportunity to change things. We're in deep sh-t.
Went to a Tea Party meeting last night, they are getting fired up from all the continuing lies and spending gone wild too. New "Liberty Party" candidates are soon to be running for offices of National and State importance. They hope this party will get the American attention by deviating from the R & D norms of passing the buck for too long already on all the people's unfinished government business. I wish them luck, and probably will be voting for some in the future as the case may be. Can't be any worse than what we've put up with for far too long already.

If the Republicans in their primary choose a candidate without political convictions mirroring strong fiscal conservatism or the Tea Party mentality (like they have in the post Reagan era) I hope that Liberty Party forms and is successful in 2012.  It'll almost assuredly have my support.

A Ron Paul- Rand Paul ticket would be my dream, but I probably hope in vain that the Republicans have the cojones to back a 'non-moderate.

The results of a conservative third party would be a spit in the conservative vote and another victory for progressive socialists.
Good point Willie, but it could work if enough pro R & D's start thinking with their heads and wallets, instead of going back to the same empty troughs of broken promises and mismanaged job duties. The bad part is the two mainstream parties always gang up and pick on the third party to assure they are kept in power, and get all the media attention when they pull this stunt. If the public ignores it, they may just do themselves the biggest favor of their lifetime. The "Liberty Party" would resolve itself to be Constitutionally driven, and fiscally conservative, doing what it takes to get back to a balanced budget, and to refuse new attempts to raise the debt ceiling again.

I fully agree with Willy, if you start splitting votes, the Dem's will have a cake walk.

Little by little pick away at those you are unhappy with, its the only way

I've even wondered if that isn't Trumps game.

My wish is Herman Cain, he could make O look stupid without a swet.

If the Republicans can field a Reaganesque candidate with sane political values instead of a Dolish-McCainiac appeaser, I agree with you both on vote-splitting.  If they don't, and nominate a less-progressive-than-Obama moderate, then they'll lose anyway even without a strong third party candidate.
Look at what the R's put up the last 3 elections, GWB Jr., and McCain, you don't call them progressive moderates? Surely not Reaganish enough for me, nor many other R's that want real change for the better. People in general need to break away from the two party mentality of anything not R or D is bad. Their records for decades bespeak of the arrogance and spending gone wild that has to end, before the USA collapses under debt it cannot pay.

I suggest you load up to protect what you have. Seems like a strange thing to say, living in the USA, but, don't think for one moment that things here couldn't get like they are across the pond.

Poverty will create things that we can't imagine. Hope I'm wrong, but, I am prepared for the worse. Stocking up on canned goods and ammo.

I like the way you stock up easy, dittos. They say if just one catastrophe of a nuke happens here due to the mideasterners, all our rights will be cancelled, and marshall law will happen nationwide, mirroring and multiplying many times the obvious homeland security laws we now live under.
