The House passed the Dream Act which would allow any illegal under the age of 30 to be granted citizenship because their illegal mommy and daddy brought them here and oh my goodness it's not their fault they are illegal. I am so sick of the Democrats. Sneaky, slithering, slimey, backstabbing, lying peices of crap. As you can tell I am p-ssed. The Senate may not pass this bill but you never know what goes on inside  empty selfish heads.

Let's not forget though Max, that the original framers of the Constitution and the authors of The Federalist either were slave-owners or had to compromise with slave-owners over the eventual law of our land, and it's nod to implicitly allow the ownership of slaves and the institution of slavery.  Allowing this evil to exist almost led to the Union's downfall, even though its elimination in 1789 might have been a deal-breaker for the Constitution.

Slavery and the problem of illegal aliens have a lot of parallels, and the immigration laws should have been and should be enforced.  They are a bit more ethical than the employers and political hacks who use the illegal aliens to further their ends.

True X.  I don't think I would have supported the ratifying of the Constitution either if I were around in 1787, though not necessarily because of the slavery issue.  It is true that the Constitution would not have had any hope of ratification without the nod.

I understand what you are saying Lisa, and I feel for them too -- believe it or not.

The problem in Mexico, as in much of the world, is their government.  Our free society (capitalism) is what has made us so prosperous.  People who become rich, make it possible for many others to also prosper (jobs).

I think securing our borders should be the top priority, otherwise amnesty would only encourage many others to do the same.

I believe you are kind and compassionate. And I agree securing our borders should be top priority. But if they vote to do amnesty it should have certain criteria (previous post) and it should be clear that it's a one shot deal not to be repeated ever.

Thanks Lisa, I appreciate that.  I can see however how some can think otherwise based on my posts.

The Mexican government and ours, for that matter, can do much to improve the lot of Mexican citizens.  Ending the war on drugs is one example.  It has been a dismal failure.  The Mexican people are paying the price, and their own government doesn't allow them the basic right of self-defense

That happened in the 80's...(I think) and now it is happening again. It is not a one shot deal. Thanks RJE for clarifying that.

Good case RJE, trouble is, we are already a multi-lingual society, as far as I see it. How come everything we buy has Spanish instructions and advertising on it? How come everytime you call the bank, store, or institution, the auto answering system asks you to push 1 for English, and 2 for Spanish? How come Mexico and other Central and South American Socialist countries cannot feed and employ their own people there in harmony and prosperity? Those Cancun's, Cabo's, Acapulco's, I've visited them too in the early 90's. True, the people are in total squaller off the main drags. Most have huts with dirt floors, cots and lanterns, open wood stoves for eating and heat too. These people are drawn here like moths to a fire. Because anything is better than where they are now. We have it pretty good here, not because our forefathers didn't work for success, technology, knowledge, sacrifice, and enforcement of our laws and borders. It's all going to slip away fast when a bill like this is passed for sure, as if it isn't bad enough already as things stand now. Sad and pitiful for our patriot citizens here.

The reason everything you buy comes with instructions in many languages is that we are a global society - the manufacturer only has to produce 1 set of instructions, this makes the manufacturing process smoother. The auto answering systems I would venture to guess that on this side of the world Spanish and English are the most common languages, over in Europe I would imagine they have additional instructions French press 3, German press 4.

We are a global nation - I believe students should be taught more than one language. I have friends from Jordan when they were in school they had to learn English and an additional language so that they were tri-lingual.

This week they said that USA has 3 primary languages, English, Spanish and Chinese.

When the ship's Captain and mindless crew members continue to steer a duplicate course of the Titanic, history may be repeated, sadly.

I am as compassionate as anyone when it comes to people trying to better themselves and their families. Unfortunately we cannot save all of Mexico, or continue to reward illegal behavior. There is a trend in politics where laws have no meaning unless it is applied to the working class in this country. The politicians no longer worry about going to jail or living with the laws that they pass. They continue to exempt themselves and perpetuate the separation of class by not holding their own accountable. This then leads to preservation of power and in order to do that they must improve their voting base. Hence we repeatedly see this type of amnesty passed into law by the politicians who are not looking out for you, me or the illegals, only themselves and retaining power. The result is a society willing vote for politicians who will destroy the very structure of our country to retain power, while they collect a check from the backs of the working man. They do not understand or care that they are destroying our country, only that life is better here.  They come from a society that is corrupt and violent, and void of structure and security. They enter the US with a third world mentality and are changing the very structure of our society, while the politicians exploit their desperation for political gain. I am losing hope that we can change the tide of this assault on our nation. Corruption has many faces and must be eradicated every time it is discovered. I am pissed off too.

Very thoughtful comment, Susan. I wish I had a better understanding of Mexican politics and the ongoing corruption. Rather than spend my tax dollars on schooling their children here and burdening our health care system, I would gladly see limited money spent on making life better in Mexico and ridding it of corruption so its citizens would stay home. Then I say, close the coffers and the borders. It makes me sick.
