I'm replying to the post by X regarding the 12 year old girl.

The reports are to conflicting to make an accurate judgement because according to the WWMT report  both vehicles were moving in the same direction while the WOOD report says one car was heading west while turning south, that would put the accident on the east side of the intersection and the WHTC report claims the car was heading east while turning left which would be north and would put the accident on the west side of the intersection.  It's a little confusing, like trying to figure out who's on first.  But in either case all the reports claim the girl crossed against the light and the vehicles had the right of way so until a more detailed and accurate report is forthcoming It seems that the girl caused her own problem.

Good point Marty, about something we don't have to deal with too much up here, or do we.  During nicer weather, I sometimes will go out to Meijer's,Taco Bell, or the theater on my bicycle, and the safest way to get out there is to go south all the way to Conrad Road.  You used to be able to go via First Street, but that's been closed by the US 31 freeway.  Going on the highway is insane and Rasmussen-Hansen is a death trap, and if a careless motorist doesn't give you enough room and clips you, it will be your fault for doing that weaving thing that drivers always like to bring up to claim their innocence.  It works too, the only things that don't seem to be are inebriation and fleeing the scene.

X. One thing I do agree with you on and I think it is absolutely negligent on the part of Ludingtons rulers is the lack of sidewalks near schools. Ludingtons like a backwards 3rd world town when it comes to providing safe sidewalks for kids to get to and from school. In my opinion the lack of sidewalks will, someday, be the cause of a horrible accident. It's only a matter of time.

Lack of sidewalks has already caused one accident I'd reckon, back in 2004 with Cody Lange.  People can rationalize it as a naive 8 year old boy riding past a stop sign on to First Street, but that would be an error.  If Grant Street and First Street had sidewalks he wouldn't have had to be in the road in the first place to get to his cousin's house.  But your assessment is right and something I've been saying all along, we need to enforce the city sidewalk policy, not put insufficient funds into just a sidewalk replacement program.

And I know you're a much smarter person than that to just agree with me on just this one topic, LOL.
