The rumors of last night had a grain of truth to them, Ariel has applied for a marriage license in Ionia to Sean Phillips.  Here is a letter from Ariel:

IONIA, Mich. (WZZM) - The mother of Baby Kate, the child who went missing from Ludington in June of 2011, now wants to marry the child's father.

Sean Phillips is serving time in a prison in Ionia County. He was convicted of unlawful imprisonment of his daughter, Katherine Phillips. Baby Kate was 4 months old when she disappeared. Sean Phillips was sentenced to spend 10 to 15 years in prison.

Phillips is serving his time in a prison in Ionia County.

Ariel Courtland, the mother of Baby Kate, filed an application for a marriage license in Ionia County on Monday, September 10, 2012 according to the Ionia County Clerk's Office.

When WZZM 13 reached Ariel Courtland by phone she said she did not want to talk about the case anymore and that "my personal life is my personal life."

There is still no sign of Baby Kate.

Ariel's biological mother April Lang spoke with FOX 17 news about the development. She told us Ariel hasn't been allowed to visit Phillips in prison. She suggested the marriage may be a ploy for visitation rights.

"I'm trying to find out if it's true or not, as far as I know, Ariel has not been able to visit Sean since he's been in prison. So for them to get married would be kind of hard to do. I know she was meeting with the (prison) warden yesterday trying to get the denial reversed, so that she can have visitation," Lang said.

Lang said Ariel is listed as a victim in the case, which means she's barred from visiting him.

"The law says the inmate can't have contact with the victim. So she's been trying to fight that hold."

Lang went as far as to talk to the warden herself Monday.

"I talked to the warden yesterday and told them I think it would be detrimental if Ariel was able to see Sean, I don't think it should happen."

Lang is worried that if Ariel get's rights to visit Phillips, her other granddaughter will be allowed to see him.

"Why would you want to visit the man who took your child? I just don't get that, it makes me sick to my stomach to think they would get married after all this."

Katherine Phillips, known as Baby Kate, went missing nearly a year ago, in a high profile case out of Ludington that's grabbed national attention.

The four month old's mother said Sean Phillips, the father, disappeared with her. The infant hasn't been seen since.

In late April 2012, Sean Phillips was convicted of unlawful imprisonment. He faced up to 15 years in prison.

A Mason County judge sentenced Phillips to 10 to 15 years in prison.

But she is only marrying him to get answers, and yet she still continues to lie!

Sick,   VERY VERY SICK somthing is NOT right here..

Yes, the question is whether this marriage is being planned for tactical purposes or out of love.  It does strengthen my original presumption of what happened, and why the local law enforcement/prosecution is playing it like they have.

More news on this:

A marriage license will be issued Thursday. The couple then has 30 days in which to marry.

Although married couples cannot be compelled to testify against each other in most criminal cases, there’s an important exception under Michigan law: The spousal privilege doesn’t apply “in a prosecution for a crime committed against a child of either or both or a crime committed against an individual who is younger than 18 years of age,” in the words of the law.

This is very strange. Ariel's and Sean's  actions mirrors the way Ludingtons elected officials govern and how their decision making process resembles unexplained psychotic episodes. Could this situation get any weirder?

WOOD, Channel 8 are claiming to have a prison note from Sean Phillips describing how Baby Kate died and what he did with the body.  They are going to break this at 11 PM.  The answer is yes, Willy.

Your right. It can get much weirder. It sure is funny how most of the news that is important regarding Ludington comes from out of town. Could it be that the Ludington Daily Enquirer can do no more than repeat other news agencies stories about their own City? What is this newspaper good for other than to promote and support local  politicians and sell ads.

It is even on 9 & 10 news and of course our own mason county news web site by Rob Alaway
