I have heard from a reliable source that the Danaher water tower is scheduled to be painted starting on or about September 17, 2012.  If you notice a little less water pressure and you live in town, it would be because they are draining the water tower in preparation.  You heard it here first.

About a year ago, I updated my Watertowergate thread which ran initially in 2010, in this recap:  watertowergate-a-year-later.  It tells of the basics:  the incredible cost of painting Ludington's two water towers in this 2009 contract ($1.2 million), the comparably small cost Scottville used to pay for their one tower ($50,000 local funds/ less than $200,000 all), the comparably small cost it took to paint the the same two towers back in 2000 ($300,000), the lack of need to paint the towers until at least 2020, the dishonoring of the contract by USM by not painting the Danaher tower in 2010, and several other points.

And even though John Shay sat across from me and told me while I was interviewing for Third Ward Councilor that the USM Company had told him that the contract would have them paint the water towers twice through the length of the contract, the contract actually never states such a thing and even says in one clause that any verbal agreement made outside of the written contract was null and void by the terms of that contract.

Coincidentally, at the last City Council meeting, I broke the topic open once again, saying that the Danaher Tower, scheduled by contract to be painted in 2010, would still remain unpainted until at least next year.  They sure went out of their way to try and prove me wrong!

It seems kind of late in the season to be painting the tower. Fall is notorious for winds and If memory serves me there was a lot of wind delays when the other tower was being painted. It seems more reasonable that the tower painting would commence in the spring. We'll see how this plays out. Thanks for the info. X.

Most paint also isn't supposed to be applied if the temperature dips down below 55 degrees during its curing time, but I don't remember the particulars for water tower paint, so anyone who could find that info in other links, it would be appreciated.  I think you're right about springtime being better, as the winds, rain and temps of late September and October are not the best, and it only gets worse the further you extend it.

It was made official tonight, the City council passed out a memo saying the water tower is to be painted this next week, along with the status of the Gaylord Street work.  There's been a truck and people working at the top of it today.
