The Democratic Party operative who was behind signing up many of the so-called “Tea Party” candidates for the November ballot has been let go from his post as a operations director for the Oakland County Democratic Party.
Jason Bauer, who was the notary listed on affidavits for a dozen of the Tea Party candidates, has come under fire in recent weeks for his role in signing up the candidates, who could siphon votes from Republicans. Two of the candidates were too young to be eligible to run for the office they were seeking and another candidate told Oakland County elections officials last week that he had no idea that he has signed up to run for an office.
On Saturday, the Democrats on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners demanded that Bauer resign from his job with the party, saying, “There is no place in our politics where deception can be tolerated.”
On Sunday, the Oakland County Democratic Party board met and demanded that Bauer resign.
“We are saddened by this situation, but cannot condone his alleged actions,” the party said in a statement. “For the sake of the party, we must part ways immediately.”
Calls to Bauer were not returned.

A new wrinkle in this story was reported today in the LDN page A6 and the Detroit Free Press, from which the following is pasted:

The fight over whether a group calling itself The Tea Party, can legally run candidates on Michigan's November ballot, appears headed for court after split decision, by the state Canvassers Board.
Mike Hodge, a Lansing lawyer representing the Tea Party, said the 2-2 split on the board was expected. Currently, the board is evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. Hodge stated that a request with the Michigan Court of Appeals, will be filed, to certify the party and its 23 candidates by Wednesday.
Opponents say the group is a fraud, trying to steal the "Tea Party" name, to draw votes away from conservative candidates that tea party activists really support. Republican Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson has stated she suspects fraud in the nominating of at least one Tea Party candidate, according to Ann Arbor.com.
Johnson has asked for a criminal investigation of an Oakland County Democratic Party official, Jason Bauer, who is alleged to have notarized at least nine Tea Party candidate affidavits; including one for a candidate who told her office his signature had been forged.
Attorney John Pirich, representing mostly Republican challengers to the legitimacy of the party, argues that the formation of the party and the way it nominated candidates- during unpublicized convention held at a Saginaw hotel July 24--violated state law. The entire process by which the Tea Party was created is "shrouded in secrecy and confusion. This Tea Party is a sham," said he stated to the Detroit Free Press.
Jason Bauer, a Democratic official, was forced to resign over the weekend after an allegation was raised that he was the organizer behind filing for the Tea Party policital campaign status with the state Board of Elections.
Another allegation of false party filing status is Mark Steffek, a former UAW shop steward and chairman of the reported, Tea Party. The Detroit Free Press reported that Steffek did not attend Monday's meeting.
Pirich believes that the party and its nominees should be disqualified for multiple, clear violations of state election law.
