Walhalla is competing against municipalities across the nation for money to put into the local economy.  Reader's Digest recently ran a contest that concluded early last month in which individuals cheered for their town.  The small town of Grand Marais, MIchigan beat out all other towns in the USA to win the prize then, which amounted to $40,000.  This time there is a bigger pot.

The Ludington Daily News ran two news stories concerning the first round of this contest, and encouraged its readers to vote for Ludington.  Ludington got some support, and finished in the top 100, but without a clear vision, they failed to get much traction.

You might think that a web blog named the Ludington Torch might advise the readers to vote for the City that it is named for, but we have documented quite a lot of misuse of funds and power by our own City government (who would receive and allot the money), that we cannot endorse this great City for that reason.  Instead, the Torch's Board of Directors have decided to throw our support behind the rural community of Walhalla, situated in the eastern half of Mason County.

No one here I know of lives in Walhalla and I personally only have chance acquaintances with Walhallans, but most of us may pass this small town when travelling on U.S. 10 and it sure looks like a little money couldn't hurt.  Our stated goal is to help this small community earn some money, and to make Walhalla the top vote-getter in Mason County.

To cheer, visit the website and put in Walhalla's zip code 49458 in the proper place.  You can cheer up to ten times a day:   We Hear You America- Reader's Digest

Rom Totta,

This was supposed to be something nice for Walhalla - step back for a minute and think about this, if you had children would you be encouraging them to act this way? I hate to fall back on old adages but 2 wrongs don't make it right.

"Tom Rotta, You ruined the last contest for a lot of Ludington residents when you soiled the message board with dirty laundry. That was not the place to air your complaints against Ludington city government. A lot of people voted for Ludington and felt bad that you would ruin a site that was supposed to be fun. How does it feel to have the table turned back at you?"

The thing is Lisa whoever wrote that quoted above doesn't realize they aren't turning anything back at X, they are causing others to have to read things they care nothing about and making themselves look like a  petty, pathetic idiot.

I mean X has douments to back up his claims, hardcore typewritten proof, the person quoted above is just full of poop with no proof of anything but what they lay in bed and make up in there mind at night. Glad I am not that lonely. They remind me of a lonely pubescent teenager who has nothing better to do than obsess over someone they have a crush on and make up all these fantasies in their  head about the person. AHHH. the days of youth..and to have a crush on someone like that the obsessed person above...but I wouldn't go back to the 90's fashion for that!!LOL

Oh, and by the way Lardo only just now went to look at the ludington thing to see what your even talking about and saw that hissy post, now to go back there an read on and figure out what the heck your even talking about.

See that is another of your problems in posting, you assume everyone has a clue what you talking about without making a claim stay consistent across multiple platforms and making sure everyone has the links to follow your banter. *That* is what makes you look like a dingbat.

I read thru 23 pages of posts at the RD site. A few brought up the exact issues that are discussed here, but were nowhere near what I expected it to be from rom's posts. there were maybe five posts total? Barely a flicker within 23 pages of comments.

It is sad that Rom doesn't understand that all gov't orgs/publicaly funded orgs need a watchdog. Really really sad to see people not want to hear what truely goes on in the halls and offices of our leaders.

It may be hard to face but i will not play ostrich and am glad X is there to ruffle some feathers with his documentation of the powers that be and their actions.

You are very correct those in the offices and rooms of our leaders sure don't know the difference between an estimate and a bid, they must think having one persons estimate is the same as having multiple bids, lol.

I guess you and they alike must have evidence of these bids otherwise all they have is one persons estimate. Oh wait.....lol

"the City and DDA are separate and have different protocol."

Really? why don't you explain that to us?

I mean I thought we were all under the impression that they were both publicly funded with tax dollars and had to follow protocols that can be verified as to being accountable to the general public when using those tax dollars.

I guess we are just really wrong eh?<--sarcasm in case you didn't get it.

"much of it comes down to the fact that you are not interpreting documents in their entirety, you fail to READ the documents correctly"

Considering by documents you are speaking about the "bids":

Why don't you give us all a lesson in how to read things that don't exist, Such as perhaps non-existent sealed bids? Did you have a special surgery done that allows you to create these non-existent documents in your mind and then transfer them onto paper  with super laser printer vision so we can all READ them correctly?

Or do we need some super telepathic vision to see what only exists in the neural synapses of yours and a few other peoples imagination? Maybe we can all get a USB port installed in our ear and share all these other(bids that exist only in your mind) with each other?

Rom Titty

If you have the knowledge and understanding of how things work then please share your expertise. Post your documents and rebuttal to the information that XLFD has provided because up to this point you have provided no proof or clarity regarding your own statements. Point out where documents are being misinterpreted and what has been misread. Enlighten me as to how the City and DDA are seperate and use differing protocol, also,  please explain what relationship exists between the two. Here's your chance to showcase some of that knowledge and understanding you brag about.

Rom has a point, in that I, and others, had put out a few posts on the the poor choices of public officials and the irrational use of public money by Ludington on the RD WHYA site in the first round of this contest.

In review of these entries, I see none of us defaming or disrespecting Ludington or anyone in this City, merely some questioning the expenditure of $2 million on the unneeded water tower painting and the new transient docks on the north side of the City Marina, and the appropriations of our parklands for uses other than they were donated for.  None of those dissed the people or the place of Ludington-- most praised both of them--just decisions made by public officials.  I was under the hope that some of them might finally supply the whys, but I am still no wiser as to the $2 million money-wasting projects, the taking of public parklands without proper protocol, etc.

I also see several (myself included) mentioning the prize money would have been great for re-instituting the lifeguard program.  Those who signed in as Ludington public officials before I had even posted made no indication of what projects to use prize money on.  The cities that won had direction for using the prize money; ours was just going to the general fund.  For who knows what.

As for saying that I have made it a life mission in harassing and threatening people without any grounds, I take offense at that.  You have had plenty of time to make a case for yourself, or to explain away any of the pertinent stuff we have discussed here.  I think we have been rather tolerant of you up to this point, Rom, but if you can't see how defaming that statement you made is, which you likely can't, you need some time off to reflect.

Aww dang somebody gave him/her some time off? I was waiting for a reply to my super telepathic vision and reading lesson reply's. :(

Don't worry there, LC, if you want to converse with Rom Ta-Ta he is still active on the Walhalla page of the RD contest dissing the Torch and his buddy X

In the meantime, Rom look over your slumped shoulders and check out the current numbers as of 1600 hours today:

I see we're gaining ground on Kingsford.  Keep voting early and often (up to 10 times a day), LOL.
