(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. Defense Department announced on Wednesday that it will make "spousal and family benefits" available no later than Sept. 3, 2013, regardless of sexual orientation, for all service members who can provide a valid marriage certificate.

And what about same-sex military couples who live in a state where same-sex marriage is not allowed? No problem.

"We recognize that same-sex military couples who are not stationed in a jurisdiction that permits same-sex marriage would have to travel to another jurisdiction to marry. That is why the department will implement policies to allow military personnel in such a relationship non-chargeable leave for the purpose of travelling to a jurisdiction where such a marriage may occur," the DOD news release said.

"This will provide accelerated access to the full range of benefits offered to married military couples throughout the department, and help level the playing field between opposite-sex and same-sex couples seeking to be married."

The Defense Department said entitlements such as TRICARE enrollment, basic allowance for housing, and family separation allowance are retroactive to the date of the Supreme Court’s decision, but any claims to entitlements before that date will not be granted.  For those members married after June 26, 2013, entitlements begin at the date of marriage.

As for civilian benefits administered government-wide to federal employees, the Department of Defense will follow the Office of Personnel Management and the Department of Labor’s guidance to ensure that the same benefits currently available to heterosexual spouses are also available to legally married same-sex spouses.

Plain and simple. No woman as the physical strength as a male, in a battlefield the women do not have the same bone and muscle structure as the male. Same as dogs or horses or bears or any other mammal. Woman who is 5'7" 130 lbs compared to 6'2" 225 lb male can not do the same thing. Ther may be a few women who have the physical abilities of a male but they are few and far between. There is a reason women are not loggers, oil rig workers, cattle rustlers etc...the physical, difference is apparent whether or not most women want to admit it or not.

I Belive a woman can not carry a injured male in full gear the same as a male can carry a female. We are not as strong much of,the time. We may find ways to,do,the majority of most male professions but being in combat is not one of them.

If women want to be in combat then we should have all female units so if someone is injured and needs to be carried then itmismpossible, of course if a male unit of enemies is,chasing down the women they will, lose if brute strength is what is needed to,win.

Women in some combat roles yes, but not all unless they can pass the male version of the physical requirements.

The,big, problem is that to advance in some military careers a person has to been in a combat role. So the women pushing this are the ones who want to move up the ranks in career development, not fight on the front lines . How about we just make all careers and pay grades available to both genders without anynspecial requirements.

The Israeli army has women in combat positions, and I see nothing wrong with the situation they have set up, but their overall situation is different.  Mandated military service by the state of Israel is needed to protect themselves.

Your right X about Israeli women as soldiers and as you correctly stated they serve because they have to defend their own borders unlike the U.S. who send their combat troops all over the World. And the ladies may volunteer but most are serving as a mandatory requirement. Here are a couple of pics of some female Israeli  soldiers that they posted on the internet which got them in trouble
