Steve Kroft did an amazing expose' on CBS Sixty Minutes where he found that many congressmen were apparently taking advantage of insider information to make tons of money in what would be called "insider trading" if they were corporate or part of Wall Street.  This should be the topic du jour of Big Media, instead it is pushed off the front pages by who should go to the State Pen from Penn State, and those that are occupying Wall Street-- not unethically stealing from it.

If you like a good 'deer in the headlights' moment look at former Speaker Nancy Pelosi's press conference at about 9:30 in.  But this is serious stuff, and instead of pushing for legislation that would have congressmen limit their investments to blind trusts or other ethical, logical fixes, the story has been getting buried.

Here is a quicker video that more bluntly states the problem without cheesy characters like Boehner and Pelosi:

Here is the list he speaks of, which shows the ungodly accumulation of wealth not by our government, but by our public servants that are elected to run the government.

The List of Skyrocketing Net Worths of Congressmen

It's beyond time to make rules prohibiting public officials from capitalizing on information gained from their position, and to have their first priority be to serve the people's priorities.  But as the first video shows, most all of the nation's rulemakers aren't wanting to do so.  A pathetic situation created in part by apathetic constituents.

one set of rules for us, another for them. Nothing new here

This is one reason why partnerships between big business and government will only wind up with more money for corrupt members of both.  It happens at all levels, as Kroft chronicles in Washington DC and XLFD has chronicled in Ludington.

Thanks for posting those videos. Very informative. I wonder if the members of Congress who are not on the list are actually honest or are just bad investors.

This wasn't a problem our forefathers who made the Constitution and Bill of Rights had foreseen in their agrarian times.  It's so easy nowadays to take advantage of inside information gotten by these positions because of all the collusion between the two entities Marty referred to.  You can make some strict laws, as some patriotic lawmakers have tried to, but it will be hard to completely stop the problem even then for the sneaky ones, which looks to be quite numerous in both parties.
