Kate Krieger Stops the Presses for Career Back at COLDNews

You may be familiar or not with the creation of the Mason County Press (MCP, and it's related Manistee and Oceana County Presses) back in 2012.  Late in 2011, Shoreline Media Inc. who runs the City of Ludington Daily News (COLDNews) and a couple of Oceana County papers, was purchased by a media conglomerate who immediately trimmed some of the fat as related in the COLDNews New Year's Eve Massacre of 2011.

As a result, the new bosses gave Rob Alway, and some four other of their more talented employees, the pink slip.  Fresh off the ground, Alway dusted himself up and created an alternative media outlet for Mason County, the aforementioned MCP which was internet based.  Alway's ambition was to be a competitive outlet against the COLDNews while working with a fraction of their capital.  In the 3 1/2 years since, he has shown to be very competitive, frequently getting the local news out quicker than the juggernaut newspaper, albeit via Facebook and other social media.

Over the years, he has expanded outside the county and expanded from within, picking up other contributors along the way.  Just over a year ago he announced that Kate Krieger was going to become a senior correspondent for the MCP (April 9, 2014: Kate Krieger joins MCP).  You can tell the MCP was happy with the acquisition, particularly since Kate had been a feature writer for the COLDNews back in 2003-2005.

You may remember her stories for the COLDNews at the time telling us about the celebration of Labor Day (A Day to Honor Labor), a celebration of aspiring writers (Writer's Feast), the celebration of winter pursuits (Blessing of theShovels 2004). and a celebration of alternative lifestyles (Triangle Foundation Visit 2005).  Not a lot of meat in these stories (which are the only ones that come up with a simple Google search), but a lot of celebration.

She hasn't been very prolific on the Mason County Press, being that she has been devoting her energy for familial pursuits (as autobiographically noted in one of her few features for MCP (May 31, 2015: The Blended Life of Kate Krieger).  She also recently supplied an interview with our local librarians about what's up this summer at the library.

But for now, Kate Krieger has went back home.  On Thursday's (July 9th) COLDNews at the far left of the front page we discover that Kate has rejoined the staff at the COLDNews.  It tells us of her previous stint at the newspaper, and tells of her career in social work between the time she left the COLDNews and worked in Muskegon County, before moving back here in 2013.  The article even tells what her long term fiancé does in some detail, but fails to tell what she has been up to since that time other than raising her family.  How typical of the COLDNews to leave out the salient fact that she's been working for another news organization for the last year and a half!

The Mason County Press has not admitted to anything just yet regarding this news, in fact she still is noted as a Senior Correspondent at MCP as of this article going to press.  But the tension between the two general news agencies of Mason County is surely going to be heating up, just in time for midsummer.

I hope she enjoys working for a biased, liberal newspaper that withholds information and the complete story from the people who read it.
