... Or at Least Their Website Is

Eight days into the new year of 2013, there has been a few changes in Mason County.  We have a new sheriff, a new undersheriff again, only seven county commissioners with some old names gone, a new treasurer, and a new probate judge, just to name a few.  But you wouldn't know it if you visited the County's lone website at http://www.masoncounty.net/

Here we can live in the past.  Probate Judge Raven and Treasurer Tim Hansen very early declined to run for re-election, but according to the County site today January 8 (as seen in the bottom right corner), they still hold those offices:

Would you rather have ten commissioners instead of seven, are you missing the five incumbents that retired or lost this last election?  No problem, there's still ten around according to the site:

Were you saddened when Jeff Fiers lost the primary and then lost again in the general election in a write-in campaign.  Be sad no more when you can see him proudly in that role on the County's website as of today, resolutely "challenging the past and focusing on the future":

And you won't see the currently elected Sheriff, Kim Cole, put up much fight on this, because he will take a much needed vacation (engaged in police training I'm sure) for six business days after his first couple days in office:

But Kim Cole must be mistaken, because if Jeff Fiers is still sheriff, then he must still be undersheriff, not Jody Hartley.  So when I go to check out the undersheriff on the sole county website whom do you think I will find there, Jody or Kim?

The answer is neither, it just so happens that Undersheriff Tom Trenner still rules the day, even though he has officially retired from the MCSO for over a month.

Lastly, you can tell the County government is way behind the times because they currently have backlogged several FOIA requests I have made over this last year's end, once again showing that the City of Ludington has a partner within the city limits that likes to disobey the laws of transparency almost as much as them.  let's get on the ball, County of Mason-- with all the millions in taxpayer money you go through each year (as seen in this draft from their most recent budgetary meeting posted on the County website after 12-27-2012) you can at least afford to update the few ways you allow the public to utilize your informational services.

The County guys finally got the commissioners up to date by this weekend, but the sheriff's office is still behind the times.  It makes you wonder what the Corrections Officers are doing during their down times.

Good find X. And your right. Who are the citizens supposed to contact if needed? I'm amazed at how behind local officials are at keeping those that pay their salary and expenses up to date on important information.
