I think the new sheriff is playing politics. I read in the LDN that, OMG, there's mold in the jail. I know we've talked about this before but now the Sheriff's got the newspaper involved. He's definitely trying to drum up support for his need to have the County fork over tax dollars to clean up the jail. I don't think the Sheriff realizes that mold has been around for a billion years and that it's one of the easiest creations of nature to control. Mr. Sheriff, do some housecleaning once in a while and your mold problems will go away and if it comes back, do a some more cleaning and add a dehumidifier. I can see that the new Sheriff will have no remorse at spending as much of our money as he can get a hold of.

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing that to be the case here.  I have seen more sheriff-headlined stories in the first couple months of this sheriff, than in the whole four year term of the other sheriff we just had.  And it seems to be stuff like this all the time.

He has to try and fulfill his campaign promises.I am sure he is a hardworking decent man, but I would never have voted for him because he was the union steward - it's a conflict of interest. I know he know longer holds that position but old ties are hard to cut.

He's definitely loyal to his fellow officers and looks out after their best interests, which is generally a good thing.  But on three very different occasions as Sergeant Cole, I've noticed that same loyalty has overshadowed his duties to the public at large.  I've yet to see a metamorphosis occur since he has become sheriff, and yes, he does seem to be still acting like a union steward.

Our current sherrif rode into the positiion on these claims so with the backing of our  biased news media source,  he knows he has to convince everyone he is "the one" since it is already rumored he will have a challenger when the next election comes.

I say let him spend money then have to scramble to pay bills. I doubt the media source favoring him will have much to say when cuts have to be made. Now with no longer accepting state prisioners, where is the jail going  to get the funds to sustain itself?

Let's see what happens when the funds dry up and the taxpayers take notice of the wild spending habits going on there. I am not so sure people will vote a tax increase to cover all the spending demands.

Cole received good press from both the COLDNews and the MCP throughout, our news commentary here seemed to generally favor Sheriff Jeff Fiers for his fiscal character and record of achievements.  I hope that rumored person just so happens to be Mr. Fiers; he just may have some converts from the rank and file of the MCSO by that time to support his cause.  Even if he doesn't, the doomsday scenarios you envision will not make the county folks happy with the "hope and change" message this one brought.

I will bet you at this point that the County Commissioners are none too pleased with being dragged into the spotlight over and over again as a result of such theatrics; I only wish it was for the cause of good, like providing better access for the public to police reports/investigations even when they are not complimentary to the MCSO.

That would be ironic and funny if Mr, Fiers ran at the next election after all the maintenance is done on the building that he didn't want to do, by the way I always heard that the all the county buildings are Fabians responsibility  since he is the county administrator he would be tasked with the up keep when it is brought to his attention. I also have heard from different township leaders that our current sheriff has brought more information to their monthly meetings than the previous sheriff did in his whole term. One actually used the term , " amazing amounts of information"   I would think thats good to hear don't you think?

Have him share it with the unwashed public then, Sam.  This sheriff administration has been terrible with blocking my FOIA requests starting back in December when Undersheriff Cole blocked my appeal for Todd Johnson investigative records because it would lead to an unfair trial for Mr. Johnson.  After Sheriff Cole said Johnson had carried on a sexual relationship with an underaged girl he coached in the paper, the girl testified at a prelim that no such activity occurred.  TMI?

The new sheriff has even decided to create their own FOIA policy without getting it approved by the county board, just to make it more difficult and costly to get records.  Sheriff Cole is even purposefully ignoring an affidavit of indigency I filed with the County on December 27, 2012 for no good reason.  Personally, I think he's doing a terrible job so far, and his weak point is getting information, accurate information that is, to the public.

I think you have an AXE to grind.... I thought we are talking about the toxic mold in a county building? Maybe you should frequent some township meetings and expand your circle of knowledge

No grindings of axes, just findings of factses.  The topic here is the new sheriff playing politics with issues.  Blocking legally obtainable information and carelessly slandering a citizen's good name (Todd Lane Johnson) is politicking that can give the County a bad name.

Sam, I didn't read the first report because it's just to much reading. Mold has been with us since time began and most people are not going to die from exposure unless they are allergic to the compounds. Every home has mold of some kind. We breath in mold every day because the spores are in the air. That's how they spread. The so called "black mold" scare is overblown hype. As I stated before, mold is very easy to eliminate. In my opinion the Sheriff is making this a political issue because a little housekeeping would take care of his mold problem.

So you work there Willy? You should have said something about the cleaning then, what I'm getting at is that maybe for the last 8 or 9 yrs people have been trying to clean up the mold and the elected boss didn't want to inform anyone what was wrong so they didn't look incompetent. And now with it being fixed every one is trying to point fingers like it all just happened Janurary 1 of this year. I'm just sayin'
