I love how certain parties are trying to blame one another about what could be a shutdown of the government... in particular, the democrats who are blaming the Tea Party more then anyone it seems.

Apparently they gloss over the fact that this budget should of been long taken care of and should of been dealt with when THEY had the power and control of both houses. If they want to blame anyone, they should blame themselves.

It's amazing how many morons we have in office at times.

Someone the other day stated that if the original $60B cuts the R's want was to get passed, it would take another 250 cuts of the same amount to balance the current fiasco budget back to normal. So, if that was to come about, at that weekly rate alone, you could not plan on a balanced effect for the next five years or so, without any new spending included. Does that bespeak alone of the seriousness of this deficit situation? Meanwhile, the finger pointing and slurs will continue, when they should be sobering up to the fact this nation is in real financial trouble, and only getting worse by the day. When do these people wake up for God's sake? I say "shut-r-down", sooner the better. Let those with Federal paychecks wait for a couple of months and see how they feel and reflect on reality.

And it will get worse. Just got a notice that thanks to the new health insurance laws my rates will go up greatly again. Than means every month I will be paying over $550 for major medical only plus the almost $300 a month for Hubby's medicare insurance with increased copays and deductibles.

That is to help pay the unexpected increased costs of the new required coverages passed by Obamacare. Added coverage includes things like baby care, pregnancy well being care and child well being health care and of course abortions. An extra $100 a month we get to pay.

Another benefit of the new laws is that now people are not expected to receive Medicare until age 67 for some and 70 based on their birth year to receive max retirement benefits for social security.

The ONLY time the public individually get's Peed off, is when it hits their own wallets. Sooner or later the masses will be affected, just like the unemployment/foreclosure scenario of present. No one cared 20 years ago about mass foreign imports and lost manufacturing jobs/benefit losses/downsizing/stock market crashes, now who cares? Too many people assume or neglect to believe that what happens to their neighbor or the guy in another town, will happen to themselves. That is catching up here nowadays with most in the public, and the outcries for change and revolt are just getting started.
gee, who gave China a favored nation status? Jobs have been bleeding ever since. If the government shuts down, who will really notice? I rememvber 95, and no-one noticed. All ecential gov. business will run as always.

As A retired Vet I have been advised that unless this drags on more than a month or so, I will notice no difference in my pay or level of medical service. If I were just applying for benefits, those who file my paperwork would be on furlough, so I could expect to be delayed approval ( As if that doesn't take forever now by the way.)

The facts are if you look back to the previous shut downs many felt like very little was really effected. Maybe that's what the Dems are afraid of. Folks deciding they really are not missing a lot from many government agencies.

According to this article a government shut down is going to cost us millions in the long run.

http://blogs.ajc.com/cynthia-tucker/2011/02/25/a-government-shutdow...

so are we just going to give government workers more paid vacation. Lovely

Basically yes..
YUP!

the dems will not accept anything the repubs offer. they think a shutdown will politically hurt the repubs as it did in 95, what they are missing this time is, more and more people are paying attention to whats going on.

And, yes, the employees will get paid, just as they did before. Such is the way of gov.

In fact, a new pew poll, shows the majority of college grads. would rather work for gov. than face an uncertian future. DUH they want the guarentee's that working for  the giverment provides. the word is  misspelled purposely

Lisa... I just had time to look at your actual link siting the costs of a past shutdown. I don't believe the numbers for one minute and there are no actual government documents in your link to show how in fact you loss money as a government by not paying for non essential people... Unless of coarse you paid them anyway . The one notable item in the article you site, is the fact fees for some services the government collects, like Federal parks and such do not get collected. But I would have to believe those would be off set by those people collecting them not getting paid. I don't know of too many people who actually own businesses, who would feel they are nothing but overpaid for the job of taking money and placing a sticker in a car window either. Those Federal ticket takers received the same benefits days off and more wages than those we have in harms way in Afghanistan by the way.

By the way.. if you read the earliest versions of the constitution and papers leading up to its ratification. It was never supposed to be possible for a government bureaucrat to make more money, than those we at that time forced to fight for our freedoms to begin with,as this would cause a major conflict of interest.

To look at all of Washington in another way. If the unelected bureaucrats continue to be allowed all of the decision making they currently do. IE Federal reserve EPA etc. Those we elect shouldn't need to be any more than a part time job IMHO. The current brood of wanna be leaders in Washington hide continually behind those who are not elected as it is.

Why don't they just let the 800.000 people who they do not need and lower the costs.   Why do they hire more than they need.    BAD MANAGEMENT  all the way arround
The article is surmising that eventually the workers will get their pay- which is why it will cost us millions - which is where I made the comment we would be paying them to take a vacation.
