A little over one week ago, our Ludington City Council voted to shut down a park and a street for a celebration of alternative sexuality pride in July, so it should come as no surprise that our Ludington Police Department (LPD) came out of the closet to celebrate their own self-pride.  Frankly, they've been doing this for many years, but they felt it was time that they need to reach around and pat their own back in a puffy propaganda piece bought to you in the aptly named City of Ludington Daily News (COLDNews) and titled A Commitment to Our Community.

When one reads this self-promotional exposition, one first wonders if this was actually written by confirmed plagiarist, Police Thief Christopher Jones, before they realize that if he didn't, who did.

The introductory paragraph has Jones introduce himself and tells us that he wants to highlight the LPD and their commitment.  The second paragraph does that in regard to the youth of the community, highlighting the LPD's partnership with others to build the new Danaher Street basketball courts.  The LPD didn't supply any money for this venture (they can't), the land was donated by the Emanuel Lutheran Church, the paving by Rieth-Riley, the paint by Ludington Paint and Glass, the hoops by others.

On days that I overlooked the construction of this, none of Ludington's finest showed up to put in sweat equity in making these courts.  The LPD was at best using the construction of these courts to blow their own trumpet, suggesting it was their brainchild, when multiple folks spoke up at board meetings of the school district when their parking lot constructions tore down less than 20 year old courts east of the middle school and made much like these new ones were made, by private concerns donating their time and money.

The third paragraph talks of other LPD partnerships with the Friends of Ludington Police (FOLP) and the Youth Advisory Council in developing additional recreational programs.  Such programs are not defined in this piece, nor is it at the FOLP supported programs page of their website, and try as we might, we could not find any collaboration anywhere between the LPD and the area's YAC.  At best, the LPD received grant money from the YAC, just like they take money from the FOLP to support the LPD in ways that the city council can't.  The partnerships are solely based on throwing more money to the LPD to support K9 programs and other programs, not for developing recreational programs.  The LPD is more of a parasite rather than a partner.

The fourth paragraph supports that simple assessment, by talking of their partnering with the Lakeshore Food Club (LFC), the FOLP, and the Shop with a Cop (SWAC) program.  At best, the LPD has served as figureheads for LFC and SWAC fundraising, with the cost of Pigs for a Cause and Food Fight and Dodgeball coming from private sources, with individual officers donating at most a few hours of their free time.  These three activities actually have the LPD adopt a little humility rather than the usual unwarranted pride and is a good look for them-- if they don't use it as props for their own braggadocio later, as they did here.

One wonders why Police Thief Jones (above) uses the people's credit card to make multiple purchases for the K9 unit when the FOLP regularly gives him money for that purpose and Jones has said to the media that the K9 unit would not be financed by the general fund when it repeatedly has been

The fifth paragraph touts their efforts against combatting drug abuse in our community.  They boast: "At the same time, we are focused on providing resources and support for those struggling with addiction."  One of the LPD's biggest critics happens to help run Mason County Life Recovery just north of Ludington's downtown and Jason Miney has indicated in many ways how the LPD ran by Chris Jones has only been a hindrance to such causes, many of his clients and himself facing undue and unlawful harassment rather than assistance, resources, or support from the LPD.

Miney's criticisms of the LPD, along with our exposures of improprieties and illegalities of the LPD have no doubt scraped Jones' thin skin, leading him to write this agitprop that paints his department in "all-that's-good" colors.  But like any good self-promoter, he feels the need to define his department's detractors and policy critics as the worst evil ever, and that's in paragraph six, reprinted her in its entirety:

"It is disheartening, however, to see that these important efforts have been undermined by individuals who spread misinformation and falsehoods about our department.  These lies and allegations of abuse and corruption are not based in truth.  They stem from anger, bitterness, and ignorance.  For too long, we have allowed a small segment of our community to level unfounded accusations against our officers without responding.  But let me be clear, these allegations are false, with no basis in reality.  I stand by the hardworking men and women of this department who are mothers, fathers, neighbors, and community members who care deeply about the well-being of this town."

While he takes five paragraphs to vaguely describe the LPD's commitment to the community talking about partnerships and overstating the LPD's position, he takes only one Nixonian paragraph to tell us that any and all disparagers of the LPD are lying, angry, bitter, and ignorant.  The Ludington Torch cannot speak for others, but all we ever bring to the table is the truth about the LPD, and while this foul gruel we bring often leaves a bitter aftertaste in the mouth, it's precisely because it is the truth about the LPD and their inability to follow their written policies in order to poorly serve our community with poorly trained officers, poorly led by a police chief who never successfully defends his plagiarism, his thievery, and his own outright lies.

That Jones won't allow for at least one sentence to defend just one of these supposed lies leveled against his department, says everything you need to know.  The Ludington Torch can say, without fear of any charges of libel, that Jones is a plagiarist, a public extortionist/thief, and a liar, because we have the receipts, while all he has is a few lame columns of singing his own immoderate praises and assassinating characters of those who are committed to not only the community, but also the truth.

Jones finishes off by saying that he couldn't be "more proud" of his department's dedication, integrity, and compassion, offering citizens an open door to discuss concerns.  The problem is that Christopher Jones is so consumed with himself with pride that he does not have the humility to discuss anything other than the awesomeness of himself and those who poorly protect and serve under him.  Anything else than that are falsehoods based on bitterness, anger, and ignorance-- in his way of thinking.
