Ning has broadcast to all NING sites that they are no longer going to offer the NING platform for free.  Here's their introductory paragraph:

Announcement

In July, we will roll-out three new pricing plans and begin phasing out our free service. Many of you chose the Ning Platform to build your communities because it’s the easiest to use, has the most reliable performance and easily scales to hundreds of thousands of members. Our shift to a paid service model will enable us to focus to a greater degree on enhancing the features, performance and services we offer to our paying Network Creators. You’ll immediately see greater control over your network branding, design and member experience. All three plans offer an incredible value relative to our current premium services offerings.

We at the Torch love free things, whether it be free people, free will, free speech, or a free forum to exchange our ideas and images.  The plans for sites who wish to continue existing after July, come in monthly fees of $3, $20, or $50.  We would lose some of our favorite features if we choose the $3 pack, and gain some more features if we 'upgrade' to a $20 pack.

About Ning - Pricing Plans.mht

We have a couple of months to make a decision on what to do.  We could choose one of the plans, find a NING alternative which can save our content and features cheaper, or consider shutting down.  If we 'purchase' the $20 plan, we could even consider to "consolidate" with other existing NING sites like Dave's, Sheila's, Coco's, etc.  Any thoughts on what would be best to do?

I consider the Torchers a valid and important group of individuals making a strong statement for can-do and will-do attitudes for freedoms and justice here in Ludington and beyond. I do hope X and many others agree that we stand strong to keep our site continued and vigilant for what it stands for. The more that can share some pledging costs when the need arises, the better. And I do believe any slack in finances will surely be overcome in the end. Summers are very busy for me, as for many else here too. Keep faithful and vigilant as always, and keep up the good work all.
Thanks guys and gals. We'll keep the fire burning in some form, barring any transitional glitches. Please help me evaluate the new system(s) when this stuff goes into effect.
July 20th is the day when the new pricing plans go into effect. We will be starting off with the $20/mo. package, and maybe make it permanent after the initial month. Thanks for all your support up to now and offers of donations to keep the Torch burNING; I hope to open up a product line of Ludington Torch paraphernalia (t-shirts, mugs, etc.) this winter to help fund our enterprise.
Will these paraphernalia items then be considered private property and trademarked? And don't forget caps and pajamas.
Or brassieres and knickers! Flame on!
Another update: On August 3rd or shortly thereafter, we are likely to have Ning Plus being activated. Hopefully, its raining that day so I can play with it a little. Look for some new features, and all of the old ones.
K. Been out of the loop, but back for a bit.
Figured you were busy like most of the rest of us during the summer months. Glad to see you're back.
Fyi Masonco, some of the poorly behaved kids here in the recent past, have decided to take their toy ball and go home sulking, cause they could not debate in a civil forum like adults, with clarity, cogency, and diplomacy. But if you miss them, they are still hacking over at LT as usual, and some are still hanging on till it's over at the Lakeshore Poop too.
Thank for the update. I noticed "the kids" have quieted down, but saw one or two still busy attacking others over yonder. "The soup?" No way...let the kids play. One did as I mentioned to the other site but not to my main site.

I had 2 eye surgeries, TN son's wife cause son was sick upon re-rentering USA after his Iraq deployment. Plus have been getting called to work a lot and well hopelessly behind cause I can not do what need to be done at home.

Anyone hard workers willing to move furniture, shampoo carpet, mow lawn etc? Will pay.
We now have NIng Plus for the next year (as of yesterday afternoon). The first thing I noticed when looking at the 'upgraded' site was that we lost the music capability on home pages and the main page. Oh well, let me know if you have experienced any problems or have discovered something else. I'll be checking out features over the next few weeks, and likely introducing some new features. The Google Ads along the side are gone also-- at least for now.
Any chance of getting the music feature back? I only spent about 10 hours igniting that feature on my page with songs I liked, now nevermore?
