Because there is a potential zombie in all of us, waiting to come forth with the proper infestation/radiation/disease consider what has happened to the north of us for the last three years.  The zombies take over for a day:

Traverse City Zombie Run, October 27th, 2012.

The Zombie Run has become a T.C. favorite since its creation in 2009 and is well on its way to becoming a Halloween tradition. What's not to like? Zombies and beer have always been a winning combination.

Over the last three years we have seen zombies from all walks of life, or should I say death. There have been wedding party zombies, zombies in tutus, baby zombies, and even Zombie Jesus made an appearance last year! The only thing we never saw was someone not having a good time!

As you may know, Right Brain Brewery has moved to 16th Street, the SoFo district, and the Zombie Run has moved with them. The run wouldn't be the same without our friends at the Brain, get it? Therefore, the race will be changing its route this year. We have also scrapped the survivor/infected thing. Even though costumes are never required we’re going all zombie. The more blood and guts, the better!

Remember to stick around after the race because the beer will be flowing. Who says you can't drink before noon? Besides, you’re already dead anyway!

This is an interesting trend that is running/shuffling across the country.  You either have a bunch of folks walking about leisurely while sporting lethal wounds and dangling organs through an area (as the above) or have a mixed bunch of zombies and humans running away and gamboling across places, sometimes using a 'flag football' approach to symbolize that a zombie who snags one has infected you with zombyism  http://www.runforyourlives.com/ .

It's a good, physical, way to spend a cool October weekend or evening and perhaps some industrious individual or business in the area may start something up a little bit closer than Traverse City.  I know zombies, or potential zombies, would want to help out in any brainstorming (or brain-gorging?!)action for such a run/walk.

I think it's mindless. What a thing for kids to see. Grownups running around with blood all over them. This zombie and vampire stuff is just plain ridiculous. Another example of the Baby Boomers tainted genetic pool running around like idiots. All caused by the liberal educational system and the drugs and mushrooms they used back in the 60s and 70s. I could understand if it were a Holloween run and people were dressed in varied costumes but an entire race with zombies. Please.

There are a lot of people that really enjoy it. Personally I think the tv show The Walking Dead is the best thing they have on tv.

It is mindless-- they're zombies, dag nab it.

If people are having fun, nobody's getting hurt, and society's mores are not getting too trampled on, I think it could be a hoot for many people.  Some may see the utter banality of the event, but it makes more sense than at least half of what's been dreamt up by the downtown people lately (speaking of mindless zombies).
