Wonderful find Aquaman. This video shines a spotlight on just how much the Democrat Party has changed. Look at Kennedy then look at what is now occupying the White House. In today's World Kennedy would be considered a conservative and he would be the first one to condemn Obama's ideals.
The original FOIA was signed into law by JFK's successor, LBJ, on July 4, 1966 and I'm sure this speech was helpful in getting it pushed through Congress and enacted with the fewest limitations possible. Ten years later, on America's Bicentennial, Michigan had their own version, along with their Open Meetings Act passed. Just before Watergate in 1972, the Federal version of OMA passed. Thanks for this bit of history Aquaman, truths like this never get old.
Thanks Marty, I know this speech is ancient, about 50 years old now, but, I thought it was still mind provoking. And that "government at ALL LEVELS must meet it's obligation to provide us with the fullest possible information ". These words are just as important today, as they were then, and dating to the forefathers that created the 1st amendment. But, the COL Mayor and Shay think otherwise, with cloak and dagger in hands to boot.
Dittos for, '(the press' job is) to inform, to arouse, to reflect, to state our dangers and our opportunities, to indicate our crises and our choices, to lead, mold educate and sometimes even anger public opinion.
This means greater coverage and analysis of international news-- for it is no longer far away and foreign but close at hand and local. It means greater attention to improved understanding of the news as well as improved transmission. And it means, finally, that government at all levels, must meet its obligation to provide you with the fullest possible information outside the narrowest limits of national security...
An error doesn't become a mistake, unless you refuse to correct them. Lesson for COL and LDN to adhere to.
