DWI Democratic Candidate Hits and Runs her Mouth

This story from South Dakota features the common theme of blame the BMP (Bicyclist/Motorcyclist/Pedestrian) when they can't defend themself because of their condition and/or their age.  But it also is instructive to the Democratic primary voters in District 10 of that state to see how worthless Carmen Toft is as a person running for office, in that she drinks and drives, doesn't yield to a 7 y.o. bicyclist in the crosswalk (maybe because she's too blitzed), and then fibs about the urchin coming out of nowhere to use this crosswalk.  She may get out of the ticket on the technicality that she refused a breath test, and was not administered a blood test, apparently.  Nor does she want to talk about it.  If I was in District 10, I would sure give her my vote-- for a term in jail.

Is drinking ethanol her way of supporting clean and renewable energy?

A Democratic candidate for a District 10 seat in the state House of Representatives was arrested on charges of DUI and Careless Driving after running into a 7-year-old girl in north Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls Police spokesman Sam Clemens confirmed this morning that Carmen Toft, 32, was cited after the collision at Eighth Street and North Chicago Avenue on May 22.
Toft was driving south on Chicago and stopped at the intersection’s stop sign just after 8 p.m., Clemens said. Toft reportedly told police the child, who was going east through the crosswalk on Eighth Street, “came out of nowhere” on a bicycle as she began driving again.
The child was knocked to the ground and taken to the hospital for possible internal injuries, Clemens said. Toft was cited for careless driving and DUI, he said, but it was treated as a standard traffic offense and no SFPD case report was created.
Toft refused to take a breath test for alcohol on the scene, Clemens said. Anyone cited for DUI in the South Dakota is required to take a blood test, however.
When reached by phone Monday evening, Toft declined comment on the advice of her lawyer.
Toft works for Planned Parenthood of South Dakota and has been active for pro-choice causes through several abortion-related campaigns in recent years, including attempts to ban the practice through ballot initiatives in 2006 and 2008.
Toft is one of two Democrats running in District 10 against Jenna Haggar, a Dist. 15 state representative until redistricting last year, and Don Haggar.

Obviously another call for one treatment of a traffic situation with a politician, and another for the rest of us. Do as WE SAY, not as WE DO! How badly was the 7 yo girl hurt?
