NEWAYGO, Mich. (AP) — Nearly 20 years later, authorities still are trying to collect money from a former city manager in western Michigan who admits stealing $1.8 million.

Randy Young was the city manager in Newaygo. He's only paid roughly $17,000 and is objecting to the government's effort to grab his retirement account from a commercial uniform laundry company.

The government says Young now owes $4.4 million, including interest. In a recent court filing, he says his 401(k) is protected under federal law and Florida law. He lives in Orlando, Florida.

In 2000, Young was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in federal prison. He said he took money from Newaygo to compensate for "harassment" from residents.

I wonder how much John Shay would think is fair to take for the 'harassment' he has suffered over the last ten years?

Hopefully, an investigative audit could find that number. If you think Brock is on our team it would be a great first test.

I think John Doe has a point. There should be an audit into all of the conflicted money deals Shay has dealt with, from the water tower painting  to no bid contracts to the double dipping City attorney fees.

I agree with all you guys posts, he should be audited, and should have been all these years. Shyster Shay is a bad recent memory, and continues to be to this day. Many shady deals went down, and the fact that he just walked away with praise and awards is nonsense of unbelievable gall and arrogance by all the city councilors.
