Public official and police officer corruption and malfeasance is so prevalent nowadays that I would advise those who post stories that happen outside of the state of Michigan to do so only if it ties into a local theme or a "Torch" theme (civil liberties and rights, freedoms, etc.), and make that link in the intro to your post. Few stories speak for themselves, so add your own introduction of relevance to strengthen the post.
Without such an intro by John Streeter, I almost missed the extremely terrible thing about this prisoner-transport case, that was lost in most other recaps of this story in other media. CNN actually has more specifics for once, in this case.
The first case reported her assault immediately; it is not disclosed whether her claims were investigated with any sort of diligence, not even whether a rape kit came back positive if it was used. Three days later that guy was still doing long range transport, which may be reasonable considering the previous wouldn't be fully investigated, but then the third incident happens nearly four months later, long after any kind of internal investigation should have confirmed the first woman's story.
The system screwed these women over just as effectively as Mr. Kindley did, by not having better accountability to prevent such incidents and quickly investigate them. If it is just a made-up story by an inmate, they should also face severe repercussions, but in this day and age, there should be technology available that would protect both parties in these situations. Otherwise, it's the ultimate job for sick people like Kindley, who should get some serious time for his sadism.
