An article on the front page of the LDN weekend edition stated that the City has settle a lawsuit with Mr. Rotta for the sum of $15,000 if the City could claim no liability or wrong doing pertaining to their actions againts Mr. Rotta regarding his banishment from City Hall. I don't have a link to this story because the LDN did not report this on their website. In the LDN's usual manner they failed to qoute or get a response from Mr. Rotta. The article as is their usual practice does not cover both sides of the story and implies that Mr. Rotta may still be guilty of the City's "workplace safety ordinance". LDN's Continuing shoddy reporting seems to be a mainstay for the LDN which is proving itself to be unworthy of the previous awards they have received.

Very astute and generous post Jane, I totally agree. The COL gets out of these fixes by simply getting the other side to agree to no wrong doing on their part, also like the Byers case, and that's incredulous at best. More technicalities and excuses by the leaders isn't exactly what I would call a winning position. But they do, so the public thinks this crony type LDN reporting is the truth, when in fact, it just covers up the truth. And the city Attorney nods, winks, and makes it also possible, with their crony version of what just transpired.
Funny, we both recalled the Byers' case when crafting our answers independently.
I am not so sure people are believing the LDN reporting as the truth. Many compare it to what is reported on Mason County Press's objective news and I hear more and more who are canceling t heir subscription to the Ludington once they find out they get up to date news posted in an objective manner for free.
Your reasoning is very close to the truth, Jane. I weighed the benefits and drawbacks of both scenarios (settling or going to full court press), and agreed to the arbitration numbers. If the City accepted, I win by default since the City effectively admits it was in the wrong, and I and my attorney walk away with a profit, none of it at the taxpayer's expense. If the City declined, I was very confident we could win the jury trial on at least four of the five counts, likely win more money (though not necessarily), and claim a clear victory.
Either way, however, the City in it's immature way, would never claim responsibility for its actions (see the Jack Byers lawsuit), and spend a lot more on its defense than I would on my prosecution, and the judge's eventual decision may have possibly left us in the hole, and definitely cost us all more. I had some back and forth with my attorney about what action to take, but I followed his advice in the end because it was a quick, decisive win that will accomplish more objectives than what I originally thought. Disappointed about not having a clear victory, I sure am.
EyE, that's the important point to remember. That the LDN, thru it's editor, Begnoche, have used their news outlet to besmirch and taint Tom's reputation and actions with regard to the COL. Mr. B in fact hates X, to the point of using his paper as a bully pulpit, lacking in ethical standards. So the conspiratorial actions continue and we, the locals trying to expose corruption, fighting for a better Ludington, are the real losers.
"LDN has never helped a soul in this town, but has taken many!" Profound, but I am willing to give LDN credit for being conscientious once upon a time long ago.
JS, your mind operates in little sound bites. When the newspaper is run by a media conglomerate not in this area, and is managed by an out-of-town, out-of-touch and out-of-his-mind editor it's only getting worse. But I think the paper once understood that it was out there for public consumption and looking out for the public accordingly. It's probably before our time, however.
EyE,
If you think the City business would not have continued as usual for two more years of a Federal trial, you are watching the wrong movie. If I keep active in my activism, I can capitalize on this quick victory in many of my other pursuits for a stronger Ludington, and attempt to get my name and my life back in order after being assailed and ran over by the City of Ludington political machine, and to disassemble that machine because it works against all honest and honorable people.
Quite right, the LDN and COL are about the biggest cohorts and minions known in these parts these days. Fake excuses notwithstanding.
