The police officer was lucky Fetters did not kill him or other officers. This situation could have been much worse. I don't know if 53 years is the appropriate sentence tho. Fetters was sentenced to more time than a kidnapper and child rapist.

I'm almost inclined to having the death  sentence handed out to Willard for what he has done. Both of these people must be very disturbed but at least they won't be causing any havoc on the outside for a while. I'm afraid Willard is going to have a much harder time of it in prison than Fetters but I doubt Fetters will ever taste freedom again. At his age  he will, most likely, die in prison before his sentence is completed.  Ludington is turning into the Detroit of beach towns.

Here's a video about the Fetters hearing, they seem to have some problems with the video on the COLDNews site.  I sure wish I knew exactly what happened that day, because I don't believe the official version is consistent.  Maybe now, I'll be at least able to get some FOIAs through and contact Mr. Fetters to get closer to the truth.  When the LPD chooses serial assaulter Aaron Sailor to embellish what happened at the incident, my doubt level increases.

Willard's case is more black and white.  He did a heinous thing to an innocent child, was immediately caught and legitimately confessed, and deserves some serious punishment.

Know the "early release" process  it is doubtful Willard will be released early. I imagine they had to follow sentencing guidelines or Willard would have the right to appeal sentencing time and end up getting it released. Other things add to the time in prison including fighting, even things as small as covering yourself while you are sitting exposed on your cell toilet can get you "tickets". "Tickets" count in parole hearings and what inmate did while incarcerated...Taking classes and applying what learned help with earlier release. In his case, Willard will be in constant fights for self preservation. Other inmates have a way of finding out why you are in prison and apply their version of justice accordingly.  Unless he ends up in protection, Willard might not survive the hazing of fellow inmates.
