Tonight's City of Ludington Daily News editorial, written by the triumvirate of Jeffrey Evans, Steve Begnoche, and Patsi Klevorn (the lady who related the attack of the chiefs in yesterday's paper) came out with an editorial in today's paper, coincidentally on the 50th anniversary of my birth on March 26, 1964.

"Barnett, who has acted in a very professional and caring manner as far as we have ever been able to observe...", and it gets better.

They ask we should "consider the manner in which Rotta makes his personal attacks... too often he resorts to name-calling and unsupported charges that get very personal".

Speaking of unsupported charges, COLDNews editors, let's have some actual examples please.  Chief Barnett, didn't give me any that I could work with.

"...his (Barnett's) reserves deal with many dangerous situations at their own peril"

Which is why they need to have legitimate authority, minimal training, standards, etc., otherwise they are not the only ones in peril, the public is.

"he (Rotta) should keep on topic and quit bad-mouthing individuals and their motives"

Examples please, of where I bad-mouth individuals, outside of their acting in their official capacity.

"... some of the bile spewed by Rotta is nothing but harmful and hateful."

One example please.

"We hope Rotta listens and takes the Chief's advice"

I could only hope the Chief, and their lapdog media, follow the Chief's advice.  I consider the source.

Chief Barnett is one of those police officers who show over and over, that he feels he and his officers are above the law.  It's a bad mindset for your local police chief.  Whether he's drafting a letter of trespass that can be used for public facilities, not allowing any security camera footage to be released to the public, while he records public bathrooms, condoning his officers (probably himself) passing in no passing zones at 40 mph in a 25 mph zone without an emergency, attacking individuals at public meetings by calling them bludgeoners and one who lobs rocks from the bleachers (from a previous attack), etc.

And my fellow ex-firefighter, former Hamlin Chief Dave Organ can tell you a lot more about his character.  Barnett is someone who can say a blessing at the beginning of a meeting for his fellow officials, and wind up with a cursing at the end against the public.  With his past actions, he shouldn't be in his position; and yet he directs his own police force, which includes the mayor.

The only advice he gave me in his rambling narrative about himself and his illegitimate force was:  I would suggest for you, Mr. Rotta, if you want to be part of the solution you better act appropriately..."

That's what I've been doing.  I've recognized my government is acting inappropriately and have acted appropriately.

Exactly X. Your not the one who has been acting inappropriately. These people need to go. They have been in the position of authority way to long and we are seeing the results by their attitude toward anyone who question that authority.

john's right. That was a threat and should be considered as such. What would the criminal charges be for a police chief threatening a citizen? If the Council agreed with that threat then I assume they would be considered accomplices because they all acted in unison. And there are plenty of witnesses.

You guys all make a lot of sense to me, bravo for the courage and insightful posts. Remember when I repeatedly stated that city hall has many "fixed agendas"? Doesn't this just put the shoe on that foot perfectly? Too much power corrupts, and this certainly is a mirror of that very truth through and thru.

Does this sound familiar
