Looks like part of Shay's West End Scheme might jeopardize the nesting area of the endangered Piping Plover.

City Manager, de facto, John Shay made a comment about the piping plover nest at the meeting last night.  He did a good show about it, but you gotta believe that he doesn't like anybody or anything (especially laws and animals he can't control) that gets in the way of his inefficiently running the city.

It would be propitious to notify the DNR Trust Fund about this and show considered alarm at what the city officials intend to do with the habitat if that concrete beach walkway get's put in.  A whole section of beach ruined as habitat if that were to come to fruition.

Here is the COLDNews information on the plover that explains more of the details.  They effectively put a cage around the nesting area and the Piping Plover parents until they cordoned off an area.  I tried to see where that area was yesterday, but couldn't find it on Stearn's Beach.  I did notice an interrupted sand-plowing job.
