What an absolute disappointment Cole is going to be the Sheriff for another four years.

Cole has wisely kept morale high among his staff and the toys and cash coming into the MCSO from a willing County Commission kept fiscally conservative throughout the Fiers era.  Four more years of public information being held hostage, and deputies running wild.

Supported by an iron fist union that takes no flak for ineffectiveness nor overspending. That and no one with guts to oppose him again, and into the future, could just make for a lifetime, or till retirement, type of Sheriff for MC. Did all the clownsil members get their petition in yet too? I suppose so now, with no opposition there either, pitiful, pathetic, and inexcusable lackluster citizenry that gets what we deserve now. Sad, we could do Much Better!

In an ironic twist, Sheriff Cole is getting the additional honor of receiving an Achievement Award at this year's WSCC graduation ceremonies.  Cole is an alumnus of that organization and has made career advancements, so he is an appropriate recipient, but the irony comes in when one considers 1) how law enforcement actions (albeit in Manistee County by another WSCC criminal justice officer) cut down the previous WSCC president, Chuck "Superdrunk" Dillon, and 2) how Sheriff Cole works against providing information to the public-- which is the same duty that a public institution like WSCC is supposed to be doing for their enrollees.

The campaign for Sheriff was over the moment "School Boots" Cole booted the first classroom.

Cole is politically  astute and he milked what passes for the local news media around here like a porn queen on a 2 day shoot.. But he a poor administrator and fiscally irresponsible. With no one to dare challenge him we get the Sheriff we deserve.

One bright spot, you will get to come to the Torch to lampoon SB Cole for the next 4 years.

And hey Cole get them damn body cameras for the  troops you old union licker.

That's funny shinblind. I'm sure many male porn stars wished they could have a 2 day shoot. As far as Coles reelection, I would think that another reason he is running unopposed is that most of the qualified applicants would be from law enforcement, meaning his own officers and I doubt any of them want to run against him for fear of their jobs. Even though being in law enforcement is not a requirement for the office, I doubt anyone would vote for a civilian to run the Sheriffs office. Unless!! Hey X is it possible to be a Councilor and Sheriff at the same time. Just think no more need for FIOA's to get information from the City or the Sheriff's office.

X, why didn't you run for Sheriff?

Ethically, one should only run for one office at a time, and the City of Ludington needs a reformer more, in my honest opinion, than the sheriff's office.  And truth to tell, my main focus is on the Ludington community at this point; my issues with the sheriff's office is less on their efficacy or enforcement activities and more on their reluctance to provide information.

Practically, I would lose in a landslide if I ran for sheriff right now.  The COLDNews, MCP, city and county officials, and hundreds of people who don't know a thing about me would be railing against me for positions or comments I have never made.  The deputies would be threatening mass resignation rather than work for someone who believes in accountability and the preservation of the rights of all people.

If I do the improbable and win the council seat, I have four years to prove my mettle and my sincerity in official capacity.  Like Cincinnatus, I would be more than happy at that point to retire and go back to my plow. If I am relatively successful, Sheriff Cole continues to disappoint, and I am not totally burned out, however, a sheriff's run would not be out of the question then.

As they say, foresight is 2020.
