Comedy might be the main talent of one of our fellow local forums. How bored must they be that in an attempt to generate any interest at all, a spirited contributor takes a swipe at me... lol. I mean seriously, are you all that bored over there? lol.. I love how I'm forcing my views upon others... haha... oh yeah, really forcing them... I sit there at everyone's keyboard and force them to click on my links.. lol. Ah well, the fine 'citizen' there is apparently so awesome that he.. or she.. can't even use a fake name, let alone a real name or even sign in as a member at the Eye.. oh yeah, because he/she is afraid that if they post their 'truth' here that they might be banned/deleted... kind of like when someone posted a remark at the eye and got banned/deleted? kind of funny really, I thought the Eye was suppose to be better then the other forums... guess not if they are just like the rest of them.

Anyhow, to those people that wish to post at the Eye, more power to ya... it is your right to post where ever you wish.... peace!

Eye-On Trollevision-- Positively Irritating!

I went to that forum  once when it was new and then again a week or so ago and there were no more than five posts under any one topic. I will have to check it again.

What I really don't understand is that people will say how people get banned *here* for not towing the x's line YET, I have publicly in the threads here disagreed with X on a few different topics and am still here! and am actually an admin!  People don't realize that it is welcomed to have a differing opinion because it opens doors to a different perspective on a topic and leads to more things to research as well. But the problem with those who have been banned from here is that they get into personal attacks on members and that is not welcomed. If people could stick with disagreeing with the topics discussed and put forth reasons for there disagreement to be debated and even documents supporting a counterpoint upon that would be great.

I wish ppl would really pay attention to the documents  that are posted here, i don't see how they don't see the corruption and favoritism in city government that is proven in the city's own documents.

Three things I have disagreed with X about, The dogs park, the bird flipping, and the SOS picture. But, what those who have been banned never seem to understand is that it is not the disagreeing that is the problem............its not what you say, but how you say it.

Another thing.....how can people be okay with their city's gov't not following the rules laid out for them? Is it just plain indiference to the rules, or do some people think that just because somebody is elected to a seat(local or national) that they are them permitted to break the law. I wonder if people who are okay with the elected people of our country breaking the rules they are supposed to follow are okay with it because they think that or hope that one day they will be the elected ones and then they can break the rules?

How many people want that perceived entitlement of rule-breaking to be their own ability someday and therefore condone it so that one day they get to do it to? I would think people would be more altruistic.

Thanks for your acute insight there Lando, methinks you hit several nails right on the head too girl, good work. What you said about the Torch differences in opinion is completely true as well as the unnecessary personal attacks. Those whom cannot debate in a polite and courteous fashion can go elsewhere for their trivial devisive ways to exchange information. The fact that so many, many times our staff and contributors devote countless hours to fully investigate any and all allegations of improprieties bespeaks of a sound and logical base for any debate. Fully backed up many times with FOIA information and other written documents for proper procedure and legalities required to perform tasks set before the Council and others in local governmental positions of authority. When these very rules and procedural protocol are ignored or intentionally set aside, then the people must convene, whether it be at the local coffee shop, grocery, beach, or a local talk forum, and decide what the real truth is, and how it applies to todays actions by elected and appointed officials. Dave, what you said too. The comedy continues over yonder.....lol.

Continues, but at a lesser pace and at a lesser threshold of accuracy.

Lando has hit the screw on the head, I, and the fine staff of Administrators we have here, actually prefer a diversity of opinion as long as the diversity presented falls within the Terms of Service ('the basic Ning rules you can view at the bottom of any page).

I have had my opinions changed and/or charged by on-point posts by Lando and others I may disagree with on a topic or two.  I typically will give the random spinner, spammer, or troll more leeway than many here want me to, and will leave as much material of theirs I can without offending the regulars who may have been personally attacked.

For those who lament their fate here on the monochrome pages of the Eye, it may be a stretch, but stick to the truth.

What is the "eye" and can someone post the web adress?

R.I.P.   July 2011- September 2011

Eye on Ludington, almost like the summer of 2011, has come to an end.  This forum whose raison d'etre seemed to center around grousing about this forum and slandering its members has ceased to exist.  Here's what you get when you go to their site now.

The creators and administrators may come back in some other form at some other time, and maybe they will consider some format that is not so insulting to others, or so banal and inane.

Maybe the blue bear ate them.

Having a high traffic(20+ daily active registered posters)  website message board/forum this area is unlikely. The population is too small(27K for the entire county including all ages). No matter the content or format I can't see (and have not seen) a large active following on any forum type site locally. Whether specializing in  a few topics or being very broad and generalized, I think it would be unlikely to have more than 10 *daily* active users.. The old LDN site had upwards of 1000 members but the active users were a very limited bunch, and that site had the LDN to give it promotion  and a broad base of readers of the newspaper to draw from.

I frequent some other forums about specific topics, the most active one I have found is a dog site. here are the stats tonight:

119 online. 18 members and 101 non-members

Most users ever online at once was 340

The dog forum is a specialized site that is actually much more than a forum and if those are the stats for a worldwide dog site, I can't see a Ludington site getting those kinds of numbers.
If the Eye people want a big site they are going to have to come up with a great mission statement and vision. They will need to look far beyond there grudge against this site to have a large active registered user base.
When i started the coffee shop bikers site on Ning before the paid format began i was really surprised how few people joined. I can't say I spent a ton of time promoting, but I guess motorcyclists are not into the latte' scene, it is definitely not a traditional biker scene. Of course I lost interest as well as riding is not a risk worth taking for my kid to lose me, and this year her dad decided to sell his bikes as well because he did not think the risk was worth it of her losing him either.
But, anyway, being a member on quite a few forums over the years i can't see something for this area taking off without something to really keep the publics interest, and being that the focus so far at the Eye has been against this site idon't think they could keep a long term group of members on that product.

You hit the nail on the head.

No forum in this part of the state is ever going to become anywhere near huge or even big for that matter. There will be a core group at any forum that will contribute fairly often if not daily and then there will be members that contribute on and off during the week and then members that will usually only reply on threads that they feel a need to comment on.

Of the local forums, Ludington Talks was the only one that was anywhere close to having a decent sized number of regular users. It was to bad when they decided to get out of forum business.. well for the most part anyway. We've been able to do ok here, have a nice group of posters here... had a few nice additions here of late too. The Soup may or may not be doing well.. only going by what we last seen of them they were lucky to have any postings over the course of week or two.

The Eye seemed to be to worried about what we was doing and I honestly didn't see where they offered much of anything to make them unique. If the Eye makes a return, I wish them luck... hopefully they decide not to worry about us so much and concentrate on making their own forum someplace unique as we have made ours. I don't care if they talk about us or not.. I'm sure they would regardless.. but in all honesty, seemed most of their convo's were about us and I just don't see where that is going to generate much interest in the average person joining there.
