A Sad Day for the Area

Some of you may have been introduced to the poor fate that one of our local heroes had befall him as reported back on September 24  LDN Sept.  Brandon McVicker, firefighter for Custer and Branch, had been diagnosed with leukemia, and roughly one month after his courageous battle with that foul disease was reported, he has succumbed to it. 

Back when I was on the Ludington Fire Department and doing the majority of my substitute teaching out in MCC, Freesoil, and MCE, I ran into Brandon and he seemed like such an energetic young man who was well on his way to becoming a factor in the local department even though he was still in high school.  It seems so unfair that he was cut down in the prime of his life, a life in which he had made already such a positive impact on the people he associated with.

As a mom of kids in this age bracket,  my heart goes out to his family.    Their futures are so bright, so full of promise, and one is so excited and proud for them.....what a very sad loss.    Thank you for acknowledging his passing.

He was a tremendous young man who gave so much of himself to assist others.  He definitely was no quitter.

Thanks for the salute to a great young firefighter and young man with a lot left to accomplish, sadly, his good deeds were not complete yet, his memory however, lives on.

 I have been honored to know this young man since the day he was born. He and his brother were raised by such great parents who love their boys so much and taught them how to love deeply and to live life to its fullest. The last conversation I had with this young man was all about first responders. His eyes lit up and you could see how much he loved being a firefighter. I watched as he and his brother stood in honor of their Grandpa Smith who died in January and who Brandon is now resting near. We are all blessed because he lived and I am proud to call Captain Brandon McVicker my nephew.

Great tribute, Allana.  The services for Brandon happened up here in Ludington at the Cornerstone Church on Nelson Road Sunday afternoon, and I doubt whether you could find a dry eye in the whole neighborhood.  The whole community is proud of this exemplar young man.

I was glad that they were able to hold it in Ludington. Unfortunately his Grandma Smith and I couldn't be there due to her ill health but everyone has told us how beautiful it was. I can picture it in my mind. Brandon will always be a hero to all of us.
