Has the dangerous Loomis Street Transient Dock walkway perhaps claimed its first victim?   https://ludingtoncitizen.ning.com/forum/topics/sunday-at-the-marina...

LUDINGTON, Mich. Ludington Police need your help in identifying the person pulled from the water Saturday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., Ludington Police were dispatched to the Ludington Municipal Marina Basin on a call regarding a body in the water. Rescue crews were able to locate and recover the victim.

Currently, the victim's identity is unknown and is described as a woman between the ages 20-30, possibly of Asian decent, 5’ 1”, 135 pounds with black shoulder-length hair.

The victim was wearing a gray pinstripe button-up shirt and black stretch-type pants with a gray waistband.

There is about one hour ago from the Detroit Free Press that names the victim:  "

Authorities in the west Michigan community of Ludington say the body of 24-year-old Ling Lang Zou was found Saturday morning at Ludington Municipal Marina. She recently moved from Brooklyn, N.Y., to Ludington for employment. Police say she's from China, where her family lives.

She was last reported seen Thursday. Police say they hope the public can help them determine her whereabouts between Thursday and Saturday.

An autopsy was conducted, but a cause of death hasn't been released.

Very sad. I feel for her family being out of the country, it must be horrible.

Agreed; I did some web searches on her and all that comes up is hits on this tragedy.  Let's hope the investigation into her death is as thorough as it would be if she was someone of note.

Question: why does anyone come to Ludville from Brooklyn NY/MI looking for gainful employment over where she was located previously? Surely with populations into the millions of people, and ooodles of more commerce, she leaves there to get a job here? That doesn't ring true to anything of common sense, to me at least. The other striking thing is that she was missing for two days before anyone woke up to the fact she had disappeared, strange.

It is a bit odd that someone from Brooklyn would even know about Ludington, but in all reality to me in makes perfect sense. I would love to find a job in Ludington so I can get off this Island and move back to what I find to be Paradise. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much employment for my line of work in Ludington. I keep my fingers crossed that the airports in Ludington and Manistee grow so that my employment odds become better.

Both Manistee and Ludington airports seem to be on the grow these days. New hangars, new runways, new main bldg. at Manistee, new private/public jets coming and going, can't say if that helps, but they are both steadily increasing in traffic yearly, esp. the last 5 years it would appear. Muskegon is also close by and growing pretty steadily too.

Manistee had 2087 passenger boardings in 2008, 2735 in 2009, and 3413 in 2010, so it is growing-- not to mention a new route going from there to Chicago just started last month (it used to go to Milwaukee).  Ludington's airport has had some infusions of money for improvements lately, but I can't find any traveler's statistics for it.

Slave labor, illegal alien working under the table...actually that seems a better optin in NYC than here. But The BUffet already got busted once for illegal workers. Or maybe she wanted out of the Cesspool of the big city, couldhave been a country girl in china too.

There are 2 scenarios regarding the woman's death. The first is that she accidentally fell / slipped into the water and either could not swim or was unable to reach a ladder or docks because she may have injured herself when she fell. The second scenario would be foul play. She may have been murdered either by someone she knew or a stranger. I'm hoping it was an accident.

I myself am leaning away from foul play, simply because the marina would be a bad place to dispose of a body.  Too many chances at detection.  Too well lit on the fringes.  Too public.  Forensics so far, also seem to be pointing away from that.

I wouldn't also totally rule out the scenario of suicide at this point or a failed attempt at swimming, but again, it would be an odd place to do either act, and she probably wouldn't have entered the cold water not knowing its depths, and with all her normal clothes on.

My moneys on the accidental drowning, but you know the City and the LPD won't want to admit to that.

isn't there camera down at that marina ever since they made that new dock?  if my memory serves me right I recall a big discussion we had about this last year

Good memory, Angela, I had actually forgot about that-- I wondered if the LPD has too.  The marina spent over $20,000 in security cameras for four at the marina.  One is typically pointed at the entrance, one at the gas pumps area, one at the marina house and the other one, at the middle of the transient docks.  This latter one, especially may hold some useful info if it was pointed toward the east end.  Sounds like a good thing to FOIA.
