The reason I made this a topic is because of the potential cost for any damage / repairs to infrastructure. If the water continues to rise and there is severe ice damage this winter we may have to open our pockets and add to the tax coffers.

I played hooky today and spent some time taking photos. I first went to Little Sable Point. I fear the light house there is in peril. I would hate to see it damaged or destroyed. Many homes along the Lake are in a serious situation of being destroyed if the erosion continues.

Next I visited the boat ramp parking lot and Ludington Ave beach, then the City Marina. All had issues with high water. The following photos are a small fraction of what I took. I didn't include the new construction at Ludington ave beach because all there was to see is water.

Little Sable Point lighthouse. If this lighthouse does not make it thru the winter we will be losing a major tourist draw and a lot of history. I hope there is something in the works to protect this monument to maritime history.

Boat launch parking lot takes a real beating when water is high because the waves crash against the breakwater instead of scraping the sand bottom. The breakwater can take only so much pounding without significant damage.

City Marina docks and the walkway are being damaged as we speak from high water. If the water doesn't recede then the next problem will be the damage caused by ice which could possibly cost a fortune to repair.

Very true Aquaman. Which came first? skewed science or skewed thinking.

Willy has powerfully convincing photos of water that is not under control.  I would prefer that Fiji and other islands, presently inhabited by humans, would not drown anytime soon. If all of our oceans are filled with icemelt because of excess CO2 at climbing levels in the atmosphere, this is not good.  Particularly if humans can interrupt this disaster by working together.  This is a new, human-sponsored insult to our atmosphere, and it is human driven.  Responsible scientists and engineers are not being skewed, just accurate.   Sitting on your hands will never solve anything that is global.

I can just hear the global warming scientists talking when New Zealand was formed. Scientist #1 "what the hell is going on? There was nothing in the water last year and now there's an island called New Zealand and it continues to grow right near that big hunk of land that floated away from Pangaea called Australia." 2nd scientist, "It's got to be from global warming or maybe cooling. The CO2 is out of control". Scientist #1 "how do you know that?" Scientist 2" it says right here in our computer projections". Scientist 1 " how can that be, there are no cars, planes, boats, lawnmowers, chainsaws, factories or cows or people to run them."  Scientist 2, "all I know is that in the future CO2, nature's plant food, will be blamed for everything, it will even be blamed for turning butterfly sh_t pink". Scientist #1" you know what" this global warming thing will be a great excuse to control future Earth inhabitants. If it's not dinosaurs it could be those dirty humans that will be infesting the internet".

And if you believe in "the Great Flood" about 2348 b.c.e. what do you think Noah was  saying?  The diesel engines on the ark is causing so much global warming that we're  flooding orchid the flooding come first? Not to make fun of anyones calamity, but the earth has fluctuations of water tables throughout history.

David, in this link there are several predictions made by the darlings of 'climate change' here is a brief summary, leaving out Paul Ehrlick's ridiculous predictions:

James P Lodge of NCAR, 1970 Boston Globe:  Ice age by the year 2000 (never happened)

Dr. Rasool, atmospheric scientist of NASA, 1971 Washington Post:  6 degree drop by 2021 (it has risen)

International team of climate scientists, 1978 NY Times:  No end in sight for 30 year cooling trend (give it 10 years)

James Hansen of NASA, 1988 Miami News:  More droughts in Midwest likely  (1988 was the last dry year in Midwest)

James Hansen of NASA, 1988 Lansing SJ:  In 50 years, Washington DC will have 85 days above 90 instead of 35 (the average has continued to went down to 28 days since)

United Nations, 1988, Agence France Press:  Maldive Islands will be underwater by 2018-- oops.

UN, 1989, Associated Press:  Rising seas could obliterate nations, 10 year window to solve greenhouse effect (all nations still present and accounted for).

James Hansen of NASA, 2008 Argus Press:  in 5-10 years Arctic will be free of ice in summer. (Nope)

Al Gore, 2008, COP 15 Climate Conference:  in 10 years Arctic will be free of ice.  In 2009 he said 5 years (still there)

Prince Charles, 2009, The independent:  8 years to save planet if industrialism isn't curbed (still going)

Laurent Fabius, 2014, French foreign minster:  500 days to climate chaos ( 500 days passed, no change)

The people who seem to be making the predictions on global warming are (liberal) politicians or part of a government agency of one kind, not traditional scientists.  This is why socialistic world political leaders and teen poster girl Greta Thrunberg sporting a middle school education are the people fronting climate change-- because it's politics, not science.

That's hard to miss for any critical thinker, and I'm very thankful that the current POTUS is aware that it's a hoax.

Good points X. David, don't be afraid of the natural changes in the environment. They have existed for millions of years. What you and the rest of us need to be very afraid of are the mad scientists who are researching and demanding  climate geoengineering. "Climate engineering or climate intervention, commonly referred to as geoengineering, is the deliberate and large-scale intervention in the Earth's climate system, usually with the aim of mitigating the adverse effects of global warming. The most prominent subcategory of climate engineering is solar radiation management."  It will be these people who could destroy the natural order of Earths climate and make a hell hole for us all to try and survive in.

I note that XLFD cites nothing after 2009 except one from 2014. Recent measurements of atmospheric CO2 remain predictive, since anybody can measure CO2 accurately.  I used an analog infrared Mine Safety device built in 1946, with tubes in it, to measure CO2 given off human arms while finding chemical attractants for mosquitoes. Excess atmospheric CO2 can be followed by anyone in the world, and cannot be refuted by calling it a hoax. I suggest CO2 is not a natural change anymore, not since Henry Ford, the internal combustion engine and paved roads got humans into cars to motor off down the paved road to buy cigarettes at the gas station.  BY THE WAY, whatever happened to cigarettes in the USA? This huge health hazard mostly went away, that our sons might not die toothless of lung cancer!  Did P. Lorrillard and the Duke family tobacco businesses help?  NO they did not.  But medical science did, with an educated public. So we are now in the Hellhole of tobacco abstinence?  Nope.

Willy states fearfully that the atmosphere will be destroyed by limiting CO2 output, or substituting solar panels to mitigate CO2 production from Coal-burning= electricity?  Your quote (from where?) states that global warming is a problem, and has adverse effects. OK, got it...nobody disapproves of that. But then you write about out of control solar radiation management  not quoted, to destroy the natural order of Earth Climate.   Wrong, and severe over-reach. We scientists want to RESTORE CO2 levels:  Year 1900 levels of atmospheric CO2 would be perfect. It would take a world-wide effort to do this, a goal much better than blowing up your neighbor who speaks a different language. No rational people want to make all of our CO2 go back to Mars.   Mars has 80% CO2 atmosphere now, not Nitrogen like we have-- now.

David. Thanks for your side of this argument.  This post started as a local post on water erosion/flooding issues mostly in Ludington and has evolved into a global warming discussion with nearly 10,000 views.  Unfortunately we have a problem, it seems no one disputes, but I still say that human gas emissions is not the only cause here or elsewhere.  And what solutions do you offer?  Plant more trees is an effective creation of oxygen, but locally Ludington slashes down our park's trees and forests and continues to develop condos and bring in more man made gases.  Some of our problems, imo, are directly related to removing dunes, changing or ignoring drainage and overgrowth along  a lakeshore that evolves.

What does your global expertise offer Ludington for its issues?

The City of Ludington has prided itself on being a leader on environmental issues with titular control of that issue ceded to Councilor Kathy Winczewski, who vice-chairs a local so-called environmental group called AFFEW (… bricks short of a load).

Freedom Seeker illustrates a few reasons why the COL and AFFEW don't appear to be doing anything sensible in relation to local environmental issues.  Councilor Moonbeam has stood at the forefront of the tree butchers, dune choppers, and lead pipe deniers, all while seeking atonement by arranging an annual foray into Cartier Park to hunt invasive species of plants.  If the leadership of the city council and local environmental group act this way, why should they be believed when they tell us we need our governments to adopt socialism in order to stop a bugbear named anthropogenic global warming?

David, when you state "We scientists want to RESTORE CO2 levels:" are you referring to yourself? Your message to people is the height of arrogance. First of all saying that scientist want to restore CO2 to any particular level is folly. Who are they to say what level of CO2 would be considered perfect. 4 billion years of Earth history and you have decided that 1900 AD is the time in history that had a perfect atmosphere. Also, in order to achieve your idea of perfection, would you strong arm the Chinese and other Asian countries in order to make them comply with your ideal CO2 levels.  Who's going to have control over all of this climate fantasy? The same "New World Order" crowd that's in the process of staging a coup right here in America? These are the same people perpetuating this global warming myth and aside from the billions of dollars they will siphon off from gullible people and governments they will try and control every facet of human life on Earth.

Adding to the steam of bad news that may not be manageable.... "The loss of oxygen from the world’s ocean is increasingly threatening fish species and disrupting ecosystems, a new International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) report warns.

Ocean oxygen loss, driven by climate change and nutrient pollution, is a growing menace to fisheries and species such as tuna, marlin and sharks, according to the report released on Saturday at the COP25 UN Climate Change conference in Madrid.

The review report “Ocean deoxygenation: Everyone’s problem” is the largest peer-reviewed study so far into the causes, impacts and possible solutions to ocean deoxygenation. Ocean regions with low oxygen concentrations are expanding, with around 700 sites worldwide now affected by low oxygen conditions – up from only 45 in the 1960s. In the same period, the volume of anoxic waters – areas completely depleted of oxygen – in the global ocean has quadrupled, according to the report."
