Can someone disect the Juanita Ave beach access and parking issue?

Seems like the people who live in the area don't want the street to have an right of way for the public to access the lake and went as far as to deface signs.. Yet as it is written now there is parking allowed off the pavement and unless ordinances are changed it will stay that way. And whoever put the signs up seemed to put them very close together so people could not park in the "public right of way" without being on the pavement. Then the land owners in the area went and put up there own signs, is that even legal?

The one guys even planted flowers and says something along the lines of "I put them there and people can't drive over them(paraphrased)"...well actually you put them in a public right of way so they are not yours now and if people want to park on them too bad for you, you should not have put them where people have a *right* of way to use the property.

I was going to check in on that story in this Wednesday's LDN:

LDN Juanita Str

I have only bicycled back that way once, so I really am not familiar with the area, as may others so here's a map:

I agree with you that the guy who planted his peonies in the right of way should be thankful the Road Commission isn't picking them up.   And that the picture made the signs look as if they were preventing parking just because of their location off the roadway.  But it's worth checking out I think.

The public access to Lk. Micigan you are referring to here on Juanita Drive/St. is supposed to be just for the residents of that area, it's called Linlook Park. About 100' of beach access at the northwest corner was devoted for that some time back to appease the waterfront goers close by that don't actually own nor pay higher waterfront taxes on their private property. Simply gives them beach access formerly denied by Epworth/Lk. Michigan waterfront homes. It's not supposed to be a public access for the entire public of Ludington as far back as I can remember and know of. The true public access is at Stearns and the State Park/w/sticker of course. Any pics. of this?
When a portion of a beach is designated "public access" it refers to all the public, not just those that live in the area. this is the same situation out at Hamlim Lake where many of the roads end at the Lake and were platted as "public access". With a growing population any access should be maintained. I have a feeling that most if not all of the residents on that street are non homesteaders and they want to have the beach access all to themselves. We parked on that street to access the beach to watch the fireworks. People came out of their houses and yelled at us to move our cars or they would call the police. My God, we were only going to be there for a couple of hours but they acted like we had come to claim a homestead. If this goes to the County I will do everything in my power to see that parking is maintained on that street.
