Only 3 years but it's three more than I thought he would get.

I am glad actually. I do personally feel Congressional members should be held to a higher standard than joe shmoe.

I really had hoped whats his face Rangel would have gotten actually prosecuted.. rather than the censure dog and pony show also. But emm we all know why that would not become a reality don't we???

I hate crooked politicians as bad as the next person, but the law is an a$$ in this case.  The Texas campaign finance law is not in the best interests of the people.  Why set up so many barriers to block corporations from donating to campaigns?  The founding fathers correctly did not address such an issue in the Constitution, nor did their immediate successors.  The only reason we have such laws is that one party wishes to have an advantage over the other-- that's why there's a lot of head-scratching sections in these laws.

If there was equal justice under law, let's start seeing some of the other crooked pols sent to jail for their misappropriation of our money for their benefit

He won't serve any time as long as Delay keeps fighting it.  This decision should be overturned on appeal.

There was nothing illegal about supporting state House candidates with the funds so exchanged, and the transaction was reported publicly by both DeLay’s state committee and the RNC.  Money laundering requires an underlying crime, unless we want to expand its definition.

There is a lot of real corruption and graft going on out there, but prosecutors that twist the money laundering laws to take down political opponents is ridiculous to me and a true waste of resources.  I would say the same if this was being done (under the same circumstances) to Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, or even John Shay.

Perhaps... but what if CM Shay didn't come to a complete stop on his bicycle at a stop sign.  LOL.

I also dislike crooked politicians but from what I have observed about this case, Delay may have been framed and could actually be innocent.

Today the News announced that DeLay's Judge was a staunch dyed-in-the-wool Liberal, and refused to entertain ANY change of venue for the trial, full well knowing the district and city the trial was heard, was also staunchly Liberal. Others with higher political crimes have gone totally unpunished, or gotten light probationary sentences. Sure to be interesting when the appeal starts, which should prevail. Only problem is DeLay's wife and kids have taken a beating during the last five years on this ordeal, and it could take another five years for an overturn, way over-stressful for sure.

The whole Delay situation, in my opinion, shows what can happen when the wheels of our democracy is clogged with corruption.  Those who are targeted (usually conservative) by certain groups, usually liberal by nature, can have themselves and their family dragged through the muck for some trumped up charge like this.  We have seen it happen to Clarence Thomas, Bob Packwood, Trent Lott, etc.

Can't think of any democrats offhand, but the mainstream media and broad law interpretations by activist judges usually seem to protect the most of them.  I invite anyone to teach us/me why Delay's crime is so bad.

WOW..... sounds like this is nothing more than a predicted liberal attack on conservatives. If I would of used my Glenn Beck logic this would have been much clearer sooner.

It does seem rather against the laws of statistics that Conservative types seem to be prosecuted far far more than Liberals doesn't it? Charley Rangel gets a censure for not paying taxes on properties both on and off shore. And for misusing an Apartment claiming campaign usage. This was less greivous why?? Oh yeah becawes he is in the party of the" little guy" right I'm sure!!!
