The township of Hamlin has the distinction of being the only township in Michigan that requires a resident who lives along it's northern border to drive thru 2 other townships in order to attend a meeting at the Hamlin township hall. Of course, this could be avoided if one walks or travels by boat.

Talking of Mason Co. township trivia and difficulties of getting to the township hall:

1)  Those living up in the far northwest corner of Grant Township in Mason Co. on Fox Farm Rd. have to drive up a mile in to Manistee County and four miles to get to any other Mason Co. Rd.

2)  Those people with land in the northwest corner of Victory Twp. have to drive five miles through Grant Twp. to get around Hamlin Lake.

And if you're the Assessor of Hamlin Township, you don't need to justify increases in homestead property taxes/values with any common sense nor applicable principles, you just site the State of Michigan's pukey laws here and there as the main excuse, and raise them anyhow, even when values are plummeting per all the real estate brokers and sales figures of recent years.
