Its like a hostile work environment in the Motor City

Detroit — Another would-be burglar was fatally shot Thursday by a homeowner — at least the fifth such incident in recent weeks.

Thursday’s shooting happened at about 12:30 p.m. when two men allegedly broke into a home on the 8200 block of Penrod on the city’s west side, Detroit Police Third Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson said.

“The homeowner was able to retrieve his weapon, and fired hitting one of the burglars,” Johnson said. “He ran away and collapsed in the driveway. The other burglar was able to escape.”

The homeowner heard glass shatter near the rear of his home and found one intruder, believed to be 17 years old, attempting to enter through a window, Johnson said. The resident fired two shots hitting the victim in his chest. The juvenile intruder died.

His suspected accomplice, a man in his 20s, fled the scene and is still at-large.

This shooting is the fifth incident in the past two weeks, where a resident shot an alleged intruder, said Johnson.

"It's a message to the criminals: stop coming into people’s homes unannounced and uninvited," Johnson said.

About seven Detroit police officers were in front of the two-story house. One snapped photos while another canvassed the area for residents near the scene. A sergeant on the scene declined to comment.

I'm sure Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson is a good officer and maybe the Detroit News misquoted him when they quoted him as saying "It's a message to the criminals: stop coming into people’s homes unannounced and uninvited". What? Is he saying you can go into someones house as long as you announce your intentions to rob the property? If more criminals met the fate of this alleged burglar Detroit would see a major reduction in crime.

The Detroit Public schrools need to teach the concepts of property rights and the Second Amendment in civics class for the next generation of would-be home invaders.

I was talking about the ones working the neiborhoods

Good video Sam, more people need to be forced into seeing this. Recently, Detroit Police Chief James Craig also supported citizens owning guns for protection, and to be trained in conceal carry permits. He's a sound voice for reasonableness on this issue, and had formerly been against it, but now, he saw the light.

Love the video Sam

The letter below is why you should never register your firearms. The Government of New York City sent this letter out a few months a ago to all citizens who had registered their firearms.

Send a FOIA to your local police department to get a complete accounting of their firearms, however, and see whether they comply.

It's nobody else's business whether you own a firearm or not, until they are looking at the receiving end of it.  These are public records, officials see these records, likely they can be seen through a proper FOIA request, they leak out.  If crooks have these records they can schedule an itinerary of where the soft pickings are.

Willy, this is exactly why when you legally and voluntarily comply with the government, you only dig yourself in deeper. Point well taken too X.
