Ronald Reagan always had a certain amount of gravitas, and who better to lead off this video montage than having the Master lose his kindly demeanor and remind the media that he paid for that microphone in Nashua, New Hampshire.  When the Ludington Daily News recently had their candidate forum, they just may have heard a similar statement from the candidate who was barred from the proceedings (if he wasn't gagged).  "Mr. Shay, I helped pay for this microphone".

This is a classic exchange that happened back in the '60s critically-acclaimed series, The Prisoner.  The resemblance of the reporter to Kevin Brainiac is purely coincidental.  In this episode, Number 6, the prisoner, runs for office and the reporters actually make it very easy for him.

The last two clips are from a movie that can only be inspiring for anyone who considers themselves a political idealist, who finds themself among hundreds of political realists.  Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, chronicles the rise of Jefferson Smith (Jimmy Stewart) as a scoutmaster who rises to be a junior congressman that gets embroiled in the intrigues of Washington DC.   This first shows Mr. Smith's reactions to a bunch of journalists in the Washington Press Corps, after they cast aspersions on his character just after he is seated.

The last clip is the lead in to the film's climax, wherein Jefferson Smith filibusters to save pristine land from some unscrupulous developers led by a newspaperman editor named Taylor, and his mentor, artfully portrayed by Claude Reins.   This is more of a teaser than something that will spoil the movie's thrilling climax.

Catch the full movie here, if you want to experience the delights of political idealism triumphing over corruption.  Mr. Smith Goes to Washington: The Movie

A very good way to make a point.

Awesome clips.  Anyone who draws inspiration from Kafka's MSGTW has got my vote anytime.  But you'll have to move to my area for me to do so.

Finally a Democrat running for President who tells the truth.

Vermin actually has a history for running for officein a "Pat Paulsen" sort of way.  I can't help but think that President of the US would be quite a downgrade from "Emperor of the New Millenium" which he has been for the last twelve years.

I met Pat Paulsen once... down in Battle Creek I was hanging out near the arena downtown waiting for a concert to start. Paulsen was in town, having performed a show the previous night. I was walking along and saw him and said "Your Pat Paulsen" to which he replied "Yep, who are you?". Told him my name and chatted with him a little until his ride arrived.. nice enough guy.
