Ludington Historic District is Ludington History

Historic Vote!

With a vote of 7-0 against the establishment of the Ludington Historical District, the five year plan to assume government and peer control over the property owners of eastern Ludington Avenue has failed.  Councilor Rick Rathsack, led off a tribute to the historic district and its mission, but said he could not vote against the underlying premise of a mandate unpopular with the majority of its proposed membership.  Councilor Kaye Holman followed up with what seemed to be a counter-point, but also succumbed to the prevailing will of the district's inhabitants.

A vote followed and every single councilor voted no.  Opponents were happy, but were very well-behaved in their success.

I guess miracles can happen.

Maybe they read my prediction that the Historic District was almost assuredly going to pass, and they wanted me to look bad by proving me wrong.  This is one time I don't mind being wrong.

More than likely it was due to all the people that were against the district and within the district.  I congratulate them, and give them a well-deserved pat on the back for standing up for history-- by keeping their district free, and operating under American rules, instead of the enforced socialistic principles that make up historic districts.

Someone out there must have put spring water in their glasses, instead of the usual Kool-Aid they have been consuming. If only they could get on-board with the public on the other 100 issues.
