It would of been nicer if it was for a story regarding something nice of course... it was on a report regarding the Amber Alert that is currently active for a 4 month old baby that was taken yesterday. It was originally thought that the father took the child but him and his vehicle were found.. so for now he's not in jail or anything but sounds like he's still a person of interest.

MAYBE THEY DON'T WANT ANY COLABERATION BETWEEN THE TWO FOR REASONS WE MAY NOT KNOW. JUST SAYING??
Has there been any sort of update, I read they found the clothes the baby was wearing? Are they still searching the woods?

Not really.  This article posted this morning says that The pink shorts and a matching pink tank top with black and pink flowers that Baby Kate was wearing when she disapeared have been located, but police won't say where it was found.  The location they were found might indicate what the perps intent was.  If they were found in his car, she may have been just changed.  If out in the woods, well...  hope for the best.

Here is an article from WOOD TV commenting about the breach of Amber Alert protocol that Ludington's illustrious police chief, Mark Barnett, is suggested to have done.  The call was received by LPD at 1 PM and the Amber alert wasn't released until 9:56 PM.  A WOOD reporter interviews Barnett of the reason on this crucial delay of time:

"It's not a glitch, it's just a matter of getting people to do something, ya know," he said. "It just wasn't done quicker than it was and -- that being the case -- that was something I didn't get done quick enough."

As to whether issuing the alert sooner would have made a difference?

"I can't answer that," Barnett said. "I don't know. I don't know."

Not too surprising there, ya know.  Chief, you looked awfully carefree waving to the crowd at the parade with this baby missing less than five days and you in charge of the incident command.  How many times does this guy have to screw up before he loses his job?  The answer, of course, is as long as he protects and serves the corrupt elements of City Hall.

WOOD TV- Amber Alert Delayed

Yes this was a colossal screw up, what is the latest developments? Have they got anything yet? did they bring in search and rescue dogs, I read an article where they said he was at Hackert lake have they sent in the divers (who are an outstanding group with a lousy job). What are his parents saying. There just seems that not much is being done or at least reported.

I'm keeping tabs on this every morning and night.  My little girl prays each night that Baby Kate is alright, and I can't get away with ignoring the story.  The latest baby Kate news at this time I can find is today's LDN.  LDN 7-7-2011 Baby Kate

Just to be precise, an AMBER alert should be issued when the following criteria are afoot:

  • Law enforcement must confirm that an abduction has taken place.
  • The child must be at risk of serious injury or death.
  • There must be sufficient descriptive information of child, captor, or captor's vehicle to issue an alert.
  • The child must be 17 years old or younger.

Over seven hours earlier an alert could have been put out, where the wasting of just a few minutes may have been the difference between life and death.  The new local forum Eye on Ludington has a good point about this as well in its thread.   New Guyz in Town: Amber Alert Problems

Wow, Wood 8 a channel out of GRAND RAPIDS had a story about the Ludington Police chief screwing up!! Holy Ships!! That guy must be a remarkable idiot to screw up a missing persons report procedure.

Big city training and experience gained or lost?

That 'remarkable idiot' looks like he is going to be also the Police Chief of Scottville and Ludington in the near future do to some consolidation of services being voted on (see 7-6-11 LDN, p. 1).  The former Scottville Chief, Larry Nichols, never impressed me with his police skills, but I never questioned his integrity, his dedication to his community, or his observation of laws and protocols.

Welcome to our world, Scottville.
