A self-professed fan of Science Fiction from a young age, William Bailey grew up to become a writer of science fiction.  This knowledge of the genre perhaps made him overly sensitive to what he believes is a modern-day staple of science fiction, often portrayed by its proponents as incontrovertible science, known as global warming (revamped into the equivalent but less provocative 'climate change').  Data seems to show that in recent history we had warmer than usually global temperatures, following a period of cooler temperatures back in the 1970s and 1980s, which led climatologists of the time to speculate about global cooling.

This period of warmer temperatures coincided with a United Nations directive called Agenda 21 which was codified and acknowledged back in the early 1990s by the USA and many other countries.  Agenda 21 was a comprehensive blueprint of how to adapt to the challenges of the 21st century and beyond.  Some of the policies envisioned in the plan were not appropriate for this nation that has had a long history of preserving property and civil rights.  Many of the 'necessary' policies envisioned for the plan to be successful would suppress these natural rights for the supposed good of all.

The futuristic vision revealed in Agenda 21 was scary to William Bailey, who has a home in Mason County, and who deals with real estate to make a living.  The UN, the government or some other Non-Government Organization (NGO) taking away private property rights would not only harm himself and his countrymen's way of life, but eventually also his livelihood.

It moved him enough to speak up about the subject in Antrim County, where he owns property, and to make several comments about it here in Mason County concerning the infiltration of Agenda 21 concepts into the county government before this year.  When he found out about the assistance of LIAA by our local governments to help create new master plans, he petitioned the County Administrator to talk at a meeting for at least 15 minutes about the threat.  Contentious haggling and bargaining allowed him the opportunity to speak at the May 13, 2014 meeting for 15 minutes on the topic.

I was there at the meeting and recorded Mr. Bailey's speech, and was able to get a copy of the two handouts he gave the commissioners for their information and action.  Even though his speech lasted over 15 minutes, and was one of the few things of note that was accomplished at the meeting-- with one exception, a last minute addition to the agenda to go into closed session to discuss litigation strategies with their attorney over some unnamed lawsuit-- the two sources of local news (who had representatives there) snubbed any mention of it on their electronic editions (COLDNews and MCP).

So as of two days later, both news groups would have nothing to say about Mr. Bailey's speech or the mysterious lawsuit, or even of the other lawsuit in a supposed workman's comp claim that was voted on to be settled without public knowledge of what it was about.  Fortunately, we have the audio here where he makes the case beginning at about 3:30 in, after another person's public comment:

At the end of his presentation, Bill Bailey handed the county commissioners two handouts, a packet of several pages explaining the problems regarding Agenda 21 concepts:  ICLEI-special-report-sust-develop.pdf  and gave them a lone sheet with a Resolution-to-protect-PR.pdf for their consideration.  Will our Mason County Commissioners ever sign such a resolution?  Definitely not without your help.  Please get involved and get informed about the dangers to your own livelihood and those of your fellow men and women by reading up on the dangers of this seemingly benign movement affecting local governments.

Bill's presentation did land on page A7 of the newspaper well past everything else that was discussed or happened at the meeting (Orange box) Bill Bailey's 'mention of Agenda 21' lasted for about 17 minutes, and touched on a lot more than just saying that the terms printed were used to describe (he actually said they were synonymous with) Agenda 21.

A mention of a right wing blog was added by the COLDNews probably to try and politicize the issue and marginalize Bailey's comments as right-wing.  Bailey never quoted any partisan publications.  "Reporter" Kevin Brasiczewski then added a 'defense' of sustainable development by quoting the UN's policy on it.  That defense is scary enough in itself-- who wants international organizations dictating what you do here in Mason County?

What is also revealing is the lack of any mention of the two lawsuits against the County of Mason discussed at the meeting, one necessitating a closed session, the other being secretively settled without any discussion at the open meeting.  These expenditures of the taxpayer's money, perhaps to defend the crooked or negligent actions of the county, are not of interest to the public?  Guess again, County Commissioners and COLDNews.

It's not surprising again to see the media heads in the sand again on issues of relevance and importance of citizens rights. Here we specifically are addressing American private property rights. Of course those that don't own any property/rent/lease aren't affected, and usually don't give a hoot. The progressive libs that do own property want adhesiveness as usual to achieve a united goal, not think with their heads, just emotion. This sounds like it will play out like Obamacare. No body has been affected until it's law and too late, then it can't be reversed!

I want to take this opportunity to send a tip of the hat to Bill Bailey for a very well prepared and historically significant message about this whole process. It's not often that private citizens get seriously involved to make such a cogent presentation germane to the subject at hand. The background noise however seemed to indicate some were impatient, and not really listening and digesting the information being given. That's what we need and can expect from government officials? Yes, it seems they too have a "fixed agenda". I know one thing, numbers of people attending in support are the key to getting the attention on any subject matter. The presentation could have only been 3 minutes long, but if 50 people were there in support, with applause of support, and some verbal voices of support, this agenda may have been squashed, just like the wind turbine subject that was proposed for Lk. Michigan a few years back. Congrats to Bill for a job well done.

According to County Administrator Knizacky at the LIAA meeting last night, the lawsuit they had went into closed session to discuss was the lawsuit the County had concerning wind turbine assessment, while the other one concerned a $34,250 settlement to Robin Luke, who had worked at the County's Register of Deeds office.  Today's COLDNews says it was the proposed amount decided on by the mediator.  I will have more particulars on that case once my FOIA request is compiled.

I seen little or no reaction either way from the commissioners while Bill was talking, but I think at least five of the seven Republicans (some in-name-only) are not very receptive of the information.  Nor do I think the issue will likely come up in any way at the meetings, or be discussed publicly, unless perhaps if it is brought up at each meeting by the public.  This body unanimously passed the LIAA contract (see p 13) late last year without comment.  I haven't seen any soul from these commissioners since at least 2012.

I to want to thank Mr. Bailey for his time and energy spent trying to talk some sense into those who control our destiny. There must be something in the water in Mason County. We seem to have liberal minded politicians controlling every board, commission and news media. Except the Ludington Torch of course.
