I've heard so many silly statements I just have to get it off my chest. If I'm wrong please challenge my reasoning. If anyone else wants to add a statement they think is silly then post it and let's analyze it together.

This is one I've heard over and over and I cringe every time some one says it. " He/She is a glass half full type person" or "He/she is a glass half empty type person". What the he_ll is this supposed to mean because first of all there is no such thing as half full or half empty. That's like saying a woman is half pregnant.

Another question I hear and is quite common is "if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound?" Where do people get these ideas?

How about "A watched pot never boils".  I don't know whether everyone in our 30 second attention span culture just gives up and comes back when you hear the water boiling over the pan's side, but I have actually been bored enough to debunk this saying.  It sure does, as long as you have the burner on.

I haven't heard that one in years. My Great Grandmother used to say that.

Also "to "work like a dog" means that you are a hard worker; but actually 'working like a dog' should only be impressive if you are one of those even-lazier cats.  About the only time I see most dogs work are when they try to get that annoying tail that always seems to follow them.

That is a good one. "Work like a dog", because all they do is lay around. So I guess when someone asks me what I've been doing, instead of saying I spent all night on the computer I can honestly say "I've been working like a dog".

Gosh she/he looks as "fit as as fiddle". Technically, a fiddle is a violin, incapable of health modes. But, the saying refers to a person that is of sound mind and/or body. As for working like a dog, not all dogs were or are the domestic friends of today, many dogs of ancient and current times do work hard, sheep herding types, guard types, dogs used in search and law enforcement, trained stage/circus dogs, firehouse dogs, sled dogs, hunting dogs, and of course my fav., fishing dogs...lol.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the "seeing eye dogs" that work to help our blind, and also those in "denial"...lol.
