Sneak Preview of My First Ever Political Handout

After edits and rewrites and trying to fit this into that and that into this, I have finally got my first flyer cut down to start issuing to the masses.   Here's what it looks like before it hits the black and white paper of my presses.  Please, read it, and see whether I should do anything different for the second printing of this.  If anyone wants to help print out and/or hand out these handouts, please drop me a message. 

 

 

 

In conclusion, I just want to let our fine commentators and citizen journalists who do not live in the area, but who have compelling interests in our area, that my last sentence was no dig at you, but a shameless pander to the regionalists out there that populate the boroughs of the fair city of Ludington.  Thank you, very much.

On the top of page 2, you say "Our Chief Executive is not interested in following the rules or disciplining those who do." 

Don't you mean "don't"?  I think he is interested in disciplining those who do follow the rules.

 

I would have liked even more bomb-throwing, but it'll do for a start.  How are you getting these out?

Are you sure you're not running for c.c. to advertise the Ludington Torch?  Even if you're not, its not a bad idea. 

I did notice you didn't mention any safety issues.  Why'd you leave that out?  It's a pretty big part of your posts, and I think most L'toners would agree with most of it.

Well done X. But I think I would substitute "CORRUPTION" with another word or phrase such as  "POTENTIAL CORRUPTION" "QUESTIONABLE BIDDING PRACTICES'' or "SUSPICIOUS BUSINESS DEALINGS''  maybe "DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES" otherwise they might sic their lawyers on you.

Good point Willie, It might be a good idea to run this by an attorney just to make sure things are worded properly. I bet all those big wig politicians with ads we see on tv have a team of lawyers for their campaign media.

With all due respect, I don't want to candy-coat the corruption with such appellations.  And when you violate the City Charter and common sense by getting an outrageous sum for a paint job without competitive bids, then you let the company not even do what you have contracted for, you are doing something corruptly.

I stand by every other thing in that section and welcome any legal brief the City's attorneys (and their are many of them) send my way telling me that s--- doesn't stink.  They are already the ones on the ropes right now for violating my First (Fourteenth and Fifth) Amendment rights, so if they want to quibble between 'corruption' and 'suspicious business dealings' it helps my case against them.  But if I ever touch on something like the North Washington 'House of Mystery', I will use some discretion.

If you use "Potential corruption" your not exactly calling anyone corrupt and it still gets your message across. The problem is that if 3 or 4 of these folks decide to team up againts you using attorneys then your going to find it very difficult to out spend them on lawyer fees and that would be a big waste of your time and money. As Dagney suggested, before  handing out  leaflets,  it would be prudent to seek a legal opinion on the wording of that  pamphlet. Just a thought.

If you can't do the footwork and want to help, my printing press is a $25 Canon clearance special, so if you have some extra printing capability, I will be making another couple of handouts, and would appreciate the help in that regard. 

You should be able to download the above pictures, and I would be greatly appreciative for either using colored paper (orange is best) or if you are using white paper, to use colored ink.  Save your glossy paper for pics of the family.

Umm, I have to agree with Willie on that wording too, the added words of potential or probable makes sense to me too. Just a suggestion to avoid other hassles that could arise in the future. And we all know those hassles are prevalent and lurking in the shadows today at CH. Good luck.

And I do plan on using 'alleged', 'possible', 'probable' et. al. in the future if I get on the City Council, but "corruption" itself is not an actual defined crime like extortion or kidnapping.  If I use "corruption" it is more a matter of describing a pattern of actions that are either illegal, unethical, and/or against the common good.  I feel I have plenty of ammunition to make such a claim.

Besides I have used the word 'corrupt' and 'corruption' here on numerous occasions referring to certain institutions, without comment or legal harassment. 

But I do appreciate both of your respective concerns, Willie and Aquaman, and may just change it for the second printing.  After all, it was hard to show or prove much of anything without being able to link and add attachments on just the front and back of one page, and so the casual reader might question my certainty on the charge of corruption.

A little tip to keep costs down. Use Inkjet Superstore for your print cartridge needs. Example: 95 dollars for a color and black for my HP printer, around 22 from ISS. Re-manufactured but nothing like Cartridge World. First class packaging/product and if I remember free, fast shipping. Just as good as OEM in my opinion and does photo printing as well. Good luck in your endeavor.

Excellent advice; I was planning on going down to the local abbey to see whether some of the local monks would be able to scribe some of the handouts so I could cut down on costs.  Now I don't have to bother them. 

Seriously though, if the refill system I get doesn't work out, I will look into that option immediately.
