Welcome to the Superbowl, Torch-style! If you just enjoy the commercials or look forward to a matchup of two legendary teams pitted against each other you can still participate in the first ever Stat Superbowl at the Ludington Torch.

To enter, you need to make twelve predictions based on various statistics that will come to light after the conclusion of the Superbowl. You need not know a lot about football, but it could help in your choice of numbers. Four of those twelve choices are based on Green Bay (GBP) stats, four are based on Pittsburgh (PS) stats, and the other four are sum totals of both teams.

To enter submit just one post that assigns a number for each of the following stats before game time (this coming Sunday night). Points will be assigned for each SSS participant based on how far you are from each actual statistic (the Deviation Interval (DI), explained later).

1) GBP Final Score (DI- 4)
2) PS Final Score (DI- 4)
3) GBP Total Rushing Yards (DI- 12)
4) PS Total Rushing Yards (DI- 12)
5) GBP Total Passing Yards (DI- 25)
6) PS Total Passing Yards (DI- 25)
7) GBP Total Return Yards (Kick-off and Punts) (DI- 12)
8) PS Total Return Yards (DI- 12)
9) Total Attempted Passes in Game (DI- 4)
10) Total Complete Passes in Game (DI- 2)
11) Total Rushing Attempts in Game (DI- 4)
12) Total Number of Turnovers (fumbles lost and interceptions) in game (DI- 1)

If you guess the number exactly, you will get 8 points for that statistic. If you are within one DI from the stat, you get 6 points. Two DI, you get 3 points; within three DI, you get an extra point, 1.

For example, here is the box score of the NFC Championship game between the Packers and the Bears:  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/gameflash/2011/01/23/...

Suppose you posted the numbers (assuming the Bears (CB), rather than the PS): 35, 17, 120, 154, 280, 220, 90, 120, 52, 33, 44, 2.

GBP scored 14 more pts. than you guessed, that is over 3 DI away from your guess: 0 pt.
CB scored 3 pts. less than you guessed, one DI away: 6 pt.
GBP rushed for 120 yds. in the actual game, exactly what you guessed!: 8pt.
CB rushed for 83, 71 yds. less than your guess and more than 3 DI away: 0 pt.
GBP had 254 passing yds., 26 less than your guess, two DI away: 3 pt.
CB had 233 passing yds., 13 more than your guess, 1 DI away: 6 pt.
GBP had 57 return yds., 33 less, and 3 DI from your guess: 1 pt.
CB had 101 return yds., 19 less, and 2 DI from your guess: 3 pts.
68 Attempted Passes in the game, 16 more than you hoped, and over 3 DI away: 0 pt.
36 Complete passes fall within 2 DI of your guess of 33: 3 pt.
56 rushing attempts is twelve from your guess, and just gets you within 3 DI: 1 pt.
5 Interceptions and 1 lost fumble add up to 6 which is 4 DI from 2: 0 pt.

Add this all up and you get 31 points as your score.  High score wins the SSSI.

The winner of the first Superbowl Stat Superbowl will get a special E-award, a shiny SSSI E-ring, a brand new E-car, and be a featured member of the Torch until the beginning of baseball season.

They will also get 20% of any money (if any) that is pledged to the Ludington Torch during this period via the donate button at the bottom of the main page. Help us all by supporting the fine programming you regularly receive from the Torch.

The first hundred donors will receive the latest track from Daniel O'Donnell's latest rap album.  Caution: he's had a few shots of Irish whiskey and establishing some street cred, so be mindful of the young lads and lasses nearby the computer.

Dave, I'd be drooling if you said a Ted arrowhead or cd, or a cheap trick groupie or cd, but a Pick? C'mon man................ugh.
Are these authentic picks, ones they've used in concerts, or just ones that have Rick and Ted's excellent logos on them?
I do suppose those picks of Dave's have sentimental value, just as a bottlecap or matchstick might have to other collectors, but sorry, I have no use for them in this lifetime. I do collect, but it's other oddities and obscure items that intrigue me. A nice newer/used cd might be a better incentive for me, jmo.

Back when I use to go to a lot of shows and even work some shows, I managed to get picks from different artist here and there. One friend I had worked for Nugent for several tours and was nice enough to hook me up with a handful of Ted's picks at one of the shows I attended. In regards to the Cheap Trick picks, I worked a show at a large club down in Ft Wayne called Piere's, I provided some security as well as helped set up and tear down. Just after the concert was done, I noticed a bunch of picks setting out so I nabbed them. Normally I might of felt bad for grabbing as many as I did but if any of you have seen Cheap Trick, well, lets just say that they are not afraid to give out picks during the show. The times i've seen them play the guitar player will 2 or 3 times during the show have a handful of picks in his hand and throw them out. At this particular show I can remember there being a promotional advertising flat  with picks taped all the way around it that got thrown out during the show. Course thats not it, the guitarist mic stand is lined from top to bottom with picks as well which that night were replaced at least twice I can remember.

Anyway, with the law of supply and demand, it would be safe to say that the Cheap Trick pics are not exactly worth much as they are easy to get. Ted's picks are a little more valuable as they are a bit harder to get. I've collected quite a few picks over the years.. got picks from members of Metallica, Cinderella, KISS, Motley Crue, Warrant, Brian Setzer, Poison, LA Guns and Zakk Wylde of the Ozzy Osbourne band among some others.

Last call to get your Superbowl predictions in.  If you still flummoxed about all the numbers, just put out a prediction of the final score, by 5:00 PM today.  You will still get a mention for your accuracy if you beat out our SSS I participants.
24,21,210,170,180,140,90,75,42,30,35,4. Btw, there is no such thing as rushing attempts to my knowledge.
This stat will be the sum total of the Packers and Steelers rushing attempts.  I wish you well, and keep my fingers crossed for the Pack, who I think should be the underdogs.

Here's the recap, the Packers win in grand style, 31-25:   http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/gameflash/2011/02/06/...

And the winner of the Superbowl Stat Superbowl is....

Unofficially, mind you until I can double check it, the winner is....

It wasn't Dave who scored 19 points with 4 FG plus a TD with a PAT, nor RJE who got 3 TD with 3 PATs for 21 pt.

Nor was it Aquaman scoring 28 points the hard way (4 TDs, 1 FG, and 1 PAT), neither was it Charlemagnetism with 29 scored by 3 TDs, 3 FG, and 2 PATs).

Was it Edie,  our current leader, who grounded out 3 TDs, one with a 2 pt. conversion, 3 FGs, and 1 PAT for a total of 30?
