I am both saddened and shocked to find myself repeating  prior posts, probably long lost in the archives here, of not fully enjoying this precious and favorite season for joy and fellowship with my fellow Americans. All  because of the something like a 10 year NEWBIE tradition of trashing Christmas here at home. It's because of SP's, the (secular progressives) or more commonly known as the "politically correct liberals" that permeate our daily lives. Yes, it's Christmas and New Years soon again, and now those SP's can freely and repeatedly attack our Christmas celebration. WHY & HOW? Why, I believe they have a set of knives and forks to eat with just as we do, but, they have nothing on their plate to eat, and therefore, have to slice and dice the rest that do. Philosophically speaking, that means, at least to me, that they are blanks on the role call of reality, no meat, potatoes, veggies, nor even a meager excuse to be happy.  Not even an appetizer of positive comments to chew on. Empty plates = empty heads. Angry and despondent people with all the time in the world to pick fights, instead of being peaceful and loving individuals. Too much time to devise a mechanism for division and confrontations. The USA has prided itself throughout history in defining our being as a christian god fearing nation that follows the biblical preachings of love of thy neighbor, forgiveness, charity, and loyalty. Can this philosophy be so terrible and bad for mankind?  HOW? How can we say Happy Holidays in place of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one another? How can we now call a Christmas tree a Holiday tree like the Rhode Island Governor of a few days ago? How can we tear down the Nativity scene and birth date of the savior and God's only son, whom was the Prince of Peace? I'm far from a righteous bible thumper or preacher, but, I again ask, why tear down our institutions and traditions for the sake of illegal aliens and atheists? Does the traditions offend them so that this must occur every year constantly? Why can't everyone just accept these American traditions without fear, frenzy, and overzealous actions to squash them into the past? Let every citizen, whether legal or not, celebrate their own way of Christmas with the religion of their choice, albeit alien to us as Americans, but, can you just do it without this chaos and feeble ways of attracting attention to yourselves as martyrs? Leave true Americans alone, and vice-versa, is all I can ask for. But, that only seems a distant dream of yesterday now, or is it?

This one's for you Dulci

I commiserate for your past, In Dulce, I have had to help a few young victims of abuse myself whose lives were scarred.  Each of the three kids were victimized by three decidedly non-Christian men in a secular type of household.  Therefore any bias I may have runs counter to yours.

But if you have some study or statistic that believably shows your point, let me see it.  I think it would be hard to strictly prove either way without some subjective methodology that may invalidate the results.

Just from observations made during my lifetime, I can say without a doubt that 99% of emotional problems that children have  originate from bad parenting and single parent households appear to be the worst, not  because of the single parent but because of that parents introduction of a "shack up partner" who becomes a disrupted influence to the family. Not every situation like this is bad but a vast majority are, especially when young girls are involved. Sexual abuse of girls and physical abuse of boys is very common when a parent shacks up with their lover. Broken families are one of the most scarring emotional situations a child can deal with.

"I would also believe that Christian-based parents are not more likely to commit child abuse or neglect, and would bet they fall on the other side of the coin, with less child abuse."

The issue for me is that the abuse is occurring, period. I also was not making a distinction between single parents or couples being the violators. Furthermore, it matters not whether parents are beating a child because of their religious beliefs or because a doorknob spoke to them and told them to do it. Abuse is abuse and I want children protected from it.

"As for racism, if it weren't for a lot of socialistic leaning white people voting for Barack Obama, he would have lost both elections.  Meanwhile, black people, largely Democratic to begin with, polled atzero percent for Mitt Romney well into the presidential election."

Are you calling socialistic leaning white people racists? I think the effects of 8 years of Dubya Bush's administration was more of a motivation for white people to vote for Obama in spite of his race. I'm fairly certain that some black voters picked Obama because he was black. No surprise there given the racial history of the country. If white people had been enslaved by a majority black population for 300 years and then as citizens been discriminated against up until the present time, and if they had witnessed a succession of black presidents for their entire lives, isn't it possible that many whites would be inclined to vote for the first white president to come along?

TIger

I see your exhaling the same old speal about discrimination. It's convenient to blame whitey for all one's failures, mistakes, poor decisions and a general it's not my fault attitude. Never has there been a time when minorities had so many opportunists but the Jesse Jacksons of the World keep the division of the races going so they can further their agendas. Every ill, every pain, every bit of trouble minorities face is because of the white man. Living in the past only keeps you in the past. By the way, none of this is my fault because I sold my last slave years ago.

Balderdash. You must have selective hearing because the vilest racial statements have historically been made against black people. There are black people who are consumed by their hatred of white people, but if I put myself in their shoes I can at least understand how those feelings came to be.

I also can't recall blacks spewing invective at conservative Colin Powell and others like him. He is highly respected on the left and, if not for his being duped into making the case for weapons of mass destruction before the U.N., he would have had a promising political career supported by many Democrats.

Colin Powell is no conservative. I group him in the Rino category. I agree with Albino, the left has unmercifully demonized minority conservatives. Everyone has prejudice blood in them it's part of our makeup as humans and a part of human nature. The trick is not to let prejudice cloud your judgment or interfere with common sense.

Willy, have you been pilfering some of Mr. Albino's magic mushrooms, or are you wearing Blue-Blocker sunglasses which enable you to see things totally different?

I'm not blaming whitey for minority people's failures, mistakes, poor decisions, pain and every bit of trouble they experience. Like all human beings, they are quite capable of generating their own troubles. The point I am trying to make is that the way in which a group is treated or perceives that they are treated can influence their behavior and thinking. Poor whites who work hard and eventually become wealthy often say that deep down inside they still feel the sting and shame of having once been referred to as "poor white trash."

Blacks in this country have many opportunities and legally have the same rights as all other citizens, but it was not that long ago that it wasn't so and there are still open displays of racial hatred to remind black people of earlier bad times.

By the way, as a native Chicagoan, I have always viewed Jessie Jackson as a hustler and opportunist. You may be surprised to learn that a great many blacks in Chicago hold that same view. His, son Jessie Jackson, Jr., who leaped ahead on the political ladder as a result of having his father's name recognition, has just resigned from congress citing health reasons. Being currently under investigation for campaign financial improprieties might also have hastened his decision to step down. Ya think?

Tiger

I didn't say you blamed anybody. I was just saying how present day minorities use white people as an excuse for their own failures, mistakes and troubles. Most of the minorities that were treated poorly are either very old or dead. Most of today's  minorities never lived thru segregation and felt true extreme prejudice which was prevalent early on. Most of the minorities born in the last 40 years have had opportunities that weren't even available to whites.

This is true - but unfortunately hate/distrust/prejudice is also taught, personally I think it will take a very long time for everyone to get beyond the past and realize we have the control of our future in our own hands.

Yes Willy, but as Lisa astutely noted, "hate/distrust/prejudice is also taught," and attitudes often unintentionally carry over from one generation to the next. It would be great if every race or ethnic group would simply leave bad experiences behind and concentrate instead on living a better life in the present and future, but this isn't always as easy as it sounds.

I'm sure you have heard the expression, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." So, is it better to forget bad things or to keep them in memory to avoid making the same mistakes? I don't have the answer to that question, Willy. There are valid arguments on either side of the problem.

Tiger,

For your first section, I agree.  It doesn't really matter about the profiles of the child abusers, but that the abuse is occurring.  But we may be able to learn more about it if we understand who is more prone to do it, and why they do it so the abuse can be reduced through proactive measures.

For your second section, anybody who uses the race of a candidate as a deciding factor for their vote is a racist by definition, and that includes many white folks that voted for Obama in 2008 because of the novelty of his blackness, rather than his politics.

When 130 out of 130 black people are polled in August 2012 and none of them declare Romney (who is about as color-blind as you can get) as their candidate, that is either an astounding statistical anomaly or an indication that racism is alive and well in the black community.
