Will Obama Drop The Golden Bin Laden Egg?

If there is one thing that I have noticed during the coverage of the Bin Laden story over the last week+ its that somehow, the Obama administration has managed to at least partially screw up a golden opportunity for Obama.

When the story first broke, it was obviously a big deal as well it should of been... But then I started hearing conflicting reports on what actually happened. With the limited number of people actually on the ground, I'm a bit dumbfounded how reports can vary so much from almost everyone being armed and shooting to there only being one person shooting at the Seals. Some of the reports said that Bin Landen was armed, some say he wasn't armed but was going for a gun and a few reports said he was just unarmed with no guns around. How can so many different stories come out of a single incident with a limited number of participants?

I do have a few questions now that I've heard more about the operation... for one, why didn't the Seals grab the Bin Laden's wife that was there? Granted there was limited space on the available chopper but unless the wife was a huge woman, I think there could of been enough space made for her. Another question, if Bin Laden didn't have a gun in his hands, did he really need a bullet in his head? Some stories said he was going for a gun... if that was the case why didn't they shoot to disable first and if he got the gun shoot to kill? Shooting to kill an unarmed person seems a bit much.

Shooting to kill also brings in a bit of a moral question as far as the administration goes. It's well known that the administrations feelings on enhanced interrogation methods of the Bush years are that they don't believe them to be up to the standards of the USA. I guess the question here is this... if they think the interrogation methods were bad... is shooting to kill an unarmed person any better? The administration has shoot to kill orders out for others so the deal with Bin Laden isn't the first time the order has been given.

Anyway, the death of Bin Laden gave Obama a boost in his popularity... it most likely wont last though simply for the fact that the jobs and the economy are still in the crapper. Until such time when people have jobs again and the economy doesn't suck, Obama isn't a sure thing for a 2nd term.

The whole operation from my knowledge, was recorded, so the inconsistent stories make me question what really transpired, and why hasn't it been divulged to the public?  We are paying for these operations, why don't we get to look at it like all the bigwigs in the executive branch did?  This is one reason why I have grown in sympathy for the wikileaks' founder whose 'crime' was to expose public records, some of which were said to be exempt from disclosure, to the general public.  Open government is good in almost all situations.

The longer these questions go unanswered, the more credence it gives to conspiracy theories involving improper protocol being used in this operation.  This could reflect badly on the free world if it is believed by Islamic peoples.

One thing that Obama seems to be good at doing is sticking his foot in his mouth. He's had several occasions when he's said something that put made him look bad. For example, back when there was the situation where the black college professor got arrested while trying to get into his own house, Obama was quick to say that the cop had acted 'stupidly', even though he didn't have all the facts. The deal with the death photo of Bin Laden is another thing, he says that he doesn't want it to appear that we are 'spiking' the ball by putting out the photo. The reality of the situation is that sooner or later, the photo is going to come out. Regardless of if it comes out or not, the radical muslims are going to go crazy.. I mean seriously, they freaked out over a cartoon.

Welcome back Dave, where you been? Many voices in the news and radio declare the American public deserves better after a long decade of search and high expenditures to this ending. Do we really have final closure now the way things went down and sit with the public? I liked last SNL's take on the situation, quite funny indeed.
